where are the secret summons?

They are all over the place, LOL No, seriously, it's true - you can find them all over Ivalice (well, all over the part of Ivalice that you can explore in FF XII....)

Here are the details; obviously, :rolleyes2

-CuChulainn is found in the Garamsythe Waterway, under the Royal City of Rabnastre. In theory, you can access it pretty early in the game, but the way to get to it and actually beating it is pretty tough;

-Zalera is found in the Barheim Passage that you explore also early in the game - however, you won't find it right away, you'll need to come back after clearing a subquest;

-Same comments about Exdeath in the Mosphoran Highwaste, Zeromus in the Stilshrine of Myriam and Ultima in Crystale Grande (btw, it's not for nothing that she's called "Ultima" getting to her and defeating her is HARD): those are all places you'll visit at one point during the story, but you need to complete other stuff before coming back and going after them;

-Then you also have the "secret" summons that are located in places completely optional: those are Adrammelech in the Zertinan Caverns and Chaos in the Necrohol of Nabudis;

-Finally, there's the 13th summon, Zodiac, but you need to get 10 summons and complete a specific mob hunt before it becomes available in the Henne Mines

^And it's better to leave them alone until you are strong enough (LV50), I suggest that you train until your level is 75-80 because Ultima and Zodiac = HELL

There are secret summon.

No, you must take Velias, Mattheus, Shumihaza, Hashmalim and Famfrit. No Matter What. There's no way to avoid them.

Will the summoning system be like that of FFX or like FFVII or FFVIII???

FFX but this time, the summoner will be fighting alongside the Espers.

Yeah, summons are great and all, but I read that in boss battles, summons are really useless now. Which hurts ol Skarr. Plus I believe Ifirt is awall in this game as well.

Yes, very useless. Only the summoner gain LP and EXP, most boss gives yummy LP, so you don't want your party to miss that.But this make a good levelling up trick (EXP is divided equally to party).

I thought you were going to say Iflirt. But Ifrit is not a summon. However, Ifrit is an airship!
Belias --> Ifrit.

Is it possible to miss the opportunity of getting any summons/espers?

More than likely, yes. It's been that way with every game.

Espers are in specific locations: some are "sacred places", some are not. Part of the espers you'll get following the main story, but most of the really powerful ones are actually sidequests. For each of them, you need to defeat them before they appear as a square on the license board. Once one of your character has acquired the license to summon it, it disappears from the others' license board (i.e. only one character can acquire a given summon).

The espers that you can get through sidequests are sometimes a little difficult to find, especially since you'll almost always need to solve another sidequest before being able to access the place where they are located. Or they'll be located in a place you will never have to visit during the course of the main story....

If you want a list with locations, just check my previous post on this thread:)

I don't know if any of you go to this site but I think that's it's a pretty solid place to get get some game info but on gamefaqs.com they have a faq on the summon battles that tells a little bit about the summon and their abilities in the batttle

That's because it's in spoiler.

No. All of them are not missable. But you can't reach them until you've finished some sidequest. Eventhough, Nabudis is optional and is already a sidequest, you still have to do something before you can find Chaos.

I'd say they are an interesting challenge for you to defeat them, more than anything. There are 3-4 really powerful in the lot, but you can only acquire them very late in the game, and if you're able to defeat them, you probably don't need their help to defeat your opponents....

But again, they are an interesting challenge to defeat, so I'm not really complaining. To me, summoning is only a bonus ;)

Nothing really. But you do get access of places, items and such (Collapse at Nabudis, Ardor at Barheim etc.) But you don't get anything really, because to get Espers, you must do other important things such as Mobs Hunt (To get Chuculainn, you must defeat White Mousse and Wraith). So you should say, Do you get anything special for getting the mobs hunt? Yes, Path for Espers.
But after you defeat ten Espers, Zodiac is now available at the e-bay Henne Mines :p . I guess that's the special (The LP given by Espers is also yummy :D ).

You get some inventory after you defeat espers:

Belias: Fragment of Dawn (Key Item and Accessory)
Mateus: Sword of Conqueror King (Key Item and Weapon)
Shumihaza: Sword of the Contract (Key Item and Weapon)
Hashmalim: Sun-Cryst (Not really :p )
Famfrit: NO
Adrammalech: NO but you get to travel deep within the cavern without worries. :)
Chuculainn: NO but you get to fight Foobar which is supposed to be in Nabreus. She's cute btw. Garamsythe is clear now. In this fight, your HP will be drained like Slip/Sap, Slip/Sap-protective armor won't help you.
Zalera: NO but you get entrance to Garamsythe. Curse the 5.00.00 timer.
Exodus/ExDeath: NO. He sucked, actually. I want a worthy opponent eventhough, I lost to him more than 10 times. In this fight, you can't use item, rely on magic.
Zeromus: Well, you can fight the Dark Lord.....Beware, Zeromus (Gravity) and Dark Lord (Darkness) make a strong pair. Be sure to have a Dark-Absorbing equipment. :) In this fight, you can't use magic, rely on item.
Chaos: Well you actually can raise your clan rank here. (Phunbaba Boss, Fury, Deathscythe, Goliath, Loppy, Chaos Judas and Chaos). In this fight, Fight/Attack command cannot be used. Use Far Attack/Telekinesis.
Ultima: You get to travel far in Crystal Grande and obtain several useful thing. In this fight, Ultima can seal any of your command at any time.
Zodiac: I haven't fight him yet, sorry.

Espers is good way to level up. Let say Vaan, Penelo and Fran defeats a Baknamy, receiving 1000 LP.
When you fight with an Esper, you gained 3000 LP but only the summoner get it.

I think you mean EXP (experience points), not LP (license points - I don't think there's a single monster that awards you 3000 LP in this game)

In that case, the increase in EXP has little to do with the Esper, and more with the fact that the number of fighting characters is reduced to one. But to beneficiate from that, it's enough to just limit your fighting party to one from the party menu, instead of summoning

I think gamefaqs helps a lot :D

Personally, I have the Ultimania battle and scenario guides (in Japanese) - I'm by no way bilingual, but I know enough to understand such a guide, with the help of a dictionary (words used there aren't necessarily always ones you'd use on a daily basis :p )

I know there are good japanese sites, but I've been too lazy to look for them. And I try to minimize reading other people's faqs since I'm writing my own - I'd like to give it its own twist, based on my experience of the game, rather than copying other people's

Either way im glad they didnt do away with the summoning system. Because i guess its like what Aria said, summoning is a bounus that gives the game that extra bad ass edge.
