Looks like we are having another book-to-film film. This time its Philip Pullman's classic The Golden Compass (AKA Northen Lights). Sam Mendes (American Beauty) will be directing. Daniel Craig, Ian McShane and Nicole Kidman are going to be appearing. What are your thoughts on this?

This looks promising! I only read the first book (the Compass book), and got like halfway through the second one. So yeah, I might check this out.

Hmm. I read all the books, and to my own susprise, I quite liked them. I just know the films will suck, though.

The American version is the Golden Compass, its also known as the Northern Lights. Personally I prefer Northern Lights.

Golden Compass ROFL (to be read roff-uhl). What a stupid name. What's the point of changing the title when it's still in bloody English anyway? Woops....

I'm looking forward to it, but after the failures that were the Harry Potter movies, and The Da Vinci code...I'm not getting my hopes too high. But you can't make a catastrophe out of that film, surely? SURELY?

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

Apparently (according to Philip Pullman) it was the same person who was responsible for renaming Harry Potter who renamed Northern Lights.

If I was American, I'd be insulted by the fact that someone needs to change a title of an already English book.

Sounds interesting, but without the religion, it will suck hard. These people need to pull there thumbs outta there arses when it comes to this stuff

Not another wonderful book ruined through film.

This is going to be just like the Lord of the Rings, or Harry Potter. Films are so terrible compared to the original books. I have a rule that no matter how good the book was, if they make a movie of it, the movie will suck. Badly.
