So, anyone with a grain of sense knows to be careful, in general, about the topic of age around women.

I was wondering, though, if the average woman is really so uptight about it. Is it just the culture that, for the most part, perpetuates the idea that talk of age is taboo, and we all just play along? Or do women really dread the idea of not being considered absolutely nubile?

I think it's the latter answer.

They should say they're older, rather than younger.

So they will say "You look pretty good for a 45 year old." instead of "You look pretty ugly for a 20 year old."

I usually trick them into telling me their real age by grossly overestimating it. Add another ten years onto their suspected age and it's amazing how quickly they'll be willing to correct you.

The funniest one is when I did an ID check on a lady comming through a till I was working with a couple of bottles of wine because under new policies and legislation we have to ID anyone we suspect could be under 21 years of age. Upon being asked for ID the lady burst out laughing and handed me her drivers license. She was 36 years old. I made her day, week, month and year for that I believe.

You think that 36 is bad, my mom's 44 and she gets it all the time. Then there's my friend's mom, and she gets mistaken for a high school student and she's 47.

i think that a lot of it has to do with women and their incessant problem with self-esteem when it comes to how men perceive them, even men who they never think are attractive or appealing at all. if a woman is supposed to feel like a damn goddess all the time, they should act like it instead of hoping we treat them as such

Women should 'lighten up' in this respect.

I'm always teasing my GF for being 6 years my junior. She loves it.

I really don't care if people know how old I am. they all think I'm younger anyway. :)

A guy at a bus stop told me once that I looked mid-20s or something when I was 18, I was so proud and happy

I'm not uptight about my age, but then, I'm not old yet, so maybe I will be.

see this is the problem, you ID an 18 year old girl and she's all in your face and rude about it causing a fuss because you're saying she looks like a kid still, 12 - 15 years down the line, ID the same girl and you've just complimented her in a way even her hubby would be jealous of the results.

Well Im 21 and was IDed for the Kill Bill boxset a week before my 21st. She said I looked 16. I didnt know whether to feel insulted ot happy. I mean, when I was younger, I was barely IDed, now that Im in my 20s, Im IDed all the time!
