I've played this game three times, and I never knew you could use freaking Tents in battle.
What new things have you discovered while playing Final Fantasy IX again? It seems like I find something new every time I play it.

I discovered a lot of cool tricks such as the tent status effects when I played through my level 1 ozma challenge. What intrigues me most about this video is the names he's given the characters. Renfro? Come on, man.

I only recently discovered that you can use healing magic outside of battle eg. Curaga. Thats pretty scary.

Tents are also effective to use on enemies to induce various status effects.

Does it ever tell you this in the game itself? 0_o;

I don't think so.

I remember one of my friends telling me using a tent on Deathguise made him a lot easier to defeat. I did it, and I don't recall exactly what effects it caused, but it certainly was beneficial. I can't think of that many tricks I learned in the game; nothing really surprising. Quina's magic hammer ability was either really awesome or entirely useless depending on how much damage it did.

I never knew that either, but why do you get bad status thingy if you use a tent on yourself?

Cause you just wake up. I mean natually when you wake up you have like 4 or 5 status effects naturally. Half blindness, half sleepness, slow, and the huge urge to pee, which leads to poison damage over time.

Oh my :jess: How could I not know about this! That's pretty neat. xD
Let's see... I remember discovering you could target your whole team or all enemies with magic, but nothing special in that. That did lead to me putting auto-reflect on everybody and having Vivi cast -aga spells on all four of my party members and bouncing it back, which was fun.
Edit: "Jacobin" lol. That's worse than my brother naming Vivi "Oreo"...arguably.

Ironically enough, we already have this topic. Linkage. (http://forums.eyesonff.com/showthread.php?t=93546)
Unless the topic is the tent thing, in which case--wtf? Darkness/Poison/Silence Snake?

I didn't find out about being able to use a Tent in battle until I got Internet access and read about it.
On my last playthrough of FFIX, I discovered the hidden treasure chest behind the old women in Dali, and the Moogle costume in Lindblum. But the best was discovering Daguerreo about six months after first completing the game.

Yeah, it took me a while to learn I could use tents in battle, too. It's cheaper than using an ether to restore MP.

I knew about this trick. I just never bothered to waste my precious tents:p

I learnt this while training with some Grand Dragons. I think I learnt it because of either a confused character (can confused ones use items in IX, it's been a while since I played it :S) or cos I was looking for an item and selected and confirmed a tent by accident.
I use it every now and then on enemies since I have a ton of money in the later stages so can afford to waste them, but most enemies by then are immune to that snake :(

I knew about being able to use Tent in a battle. I mostly use it on some bosses at the beginning of the battle rather than my own characters, though. It works wonders on Meltigemini since it can't do much damage to you when it's hit by several status ailments. Other things I discovered very late in the FFs:
- Eiko can also jump in the Jump Rope minigame.
- Chocobo Hot & Cold is a really fun minigame.
- You can use Dark Matter to deal 9999 damage to anything.
- You can "defeat" Beatrix without hitting her once, you only need to survive for a few turns.

I did it the first time I noticed I could use tents in battle, so I used one on an enemy.

I discovered that you actually can learn new summons by equipping gems! Once I found that out, I realized my Lv. 12 Garnet was no longer worthless!

I always read walkthrus, and on my first file i couldnt beat Gizamaluke, and luckily i read a walkthru that mentioned to use a tent to blind him, and then i could just screw around with him, like cast slow and steal everything he had. I dont think i've ever tried tent on anyone else though, i kinda forgot about it.

Hahaha, it took me a while to figure that out too...although i think the summons are completely worthless, i always had normal attacks that outdid the summons, even when they were the trance summons.

I remember using a tent the first time I played by mistake, I did it when fighting gizamaluke, and my vivi got bitten by a snake, this in turn led to me losing :(
