View Full Version : Do you look at the Keyboard when you Type?

The Devil Man

Oh forgive Devil Man, furious Moderators, for he breaks the new 'No more then 2 Threads a day' law of General Chat by creating his Third discussion masterpiece!

But if Devil Man waits until tomorrow, he shall forget this Topic and General Chat will be a much poorer place without it!

For you see... Devil Man noticed something. He neither looks at the keyboard or the screen when he types.

He simply admires his beauty and amazing good looks in the mirror when he hits the keys. :spin: :jokey:

But what about, my wonderful people. Do you look at the keyboard when you type? Or just the screen? Or a bit of both?

DK

Just the screen.

Alittle bit of both.

My keyboard looks at me.

I just look at the screen.

Sometimes. Like right now, I'm typing while staring intently at the keyboard. ^_^

I only look at the screen. :jess:

I don't tend to look at the keyboard unless I start making a lot of typos or my hands are in the wrong position. For instance, I'll take a look at the keyboard if I type 'pl' instead of 'ok'.

I only look at the screen.

I even taught my EIGHT year old brother to only look at the screen when he types, too. And he types faster than me now... :O

A bit of both. I usually do it to realign my fingers.

Ashi
10-17-2006, 05:58 PM
I don't look at the keyboard most of the time. But sometimes I place my fingers 1 keys set down or up and my typing comes out jibberish :greenie:

A LIL BIT OF BOTH

you said in your post you don't look at either and you don't even have that option on your poll. I probably look at the screen more, but I don't have to look at either to know what I am typing. I haven't looked at this at all and I'm sure it looks near perfect to all of you. I never took any typing lessons either. Typing really isn't all that hard.

I just look at the screen, pretty much.

Never... I only look at the screen... I can 'feel' if I hit the wrong key. So if I ahve to type something from paper to pc, I just look at the paper.

well I look at the keyboard when I put my hands on home row or whenever I need to use an obscure key or numerical row key.

Now I know for sure that you are just a person playing a character. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

My eyes are constantly darting back and forth from various objects. Usually I will look at the screen, but if there is a television within sight, I will glance at it occasionally. I hardly ever look at the keyboard, my hands sorta just find their way to the "home keys".

Eh.

I don't usually type from a source, so I generally look at my screen. I can type in the dark.

Breine

No, I don't look at the keyboard, but just the screen. I'm a trained typer :)

Yes It's easier to look at the keyboard.

I don't need to look at the keyboard.

At the keyboard for the majority.

Awrini

I always look at the screen, I mean we are taught to shy away from looking at the keyboard.

I guess just over time, most words become second nature to type. Even if you make constant typos, like me. I swear my right pinky is glued to the backspace key about 9 out of 10 times. Its quite pathetic really.

Only if I make a typo to make sure my fingers are in the "right position". Actually, now that I think about it, I don't even do that. I know exactly where each key is without looking.

Denmark

the screen, for the most part. occasionally I'll look at the keys to find a random key or if I keep making a typo over and over again and i have to look at what I'm doing.

I'm inspired to make a thread now.

The only time I look at the keyboard when I type is, ironically, when it's too dark to see. I have to have a light on in order to see the keyboard well enough to not have to look at it when I type.

Not at all... also I dont touch type and people say one fingered typists cant type as fast as touch typists but I can type over 100 wpm, so ha!

Almost always just the screen.

Aren't you a programmer? :D

I do the same thing Shlup does. As long as I have light in the room I can type without looking directly at the keyboard. I need the light to at least see that my fingers are in the right position since I don't use the home key setup or whatever it's called.

sometimes i look at the keyboard when typing, but it's just a tiny reminder for where the keys are...

I look at the keyboard. I can type with decent speed, but I cannot memorize where all of the letters are. I didn't look at the screen once while typing this. :D

A little bit of both. Most of the time, I look at the screen , though.

I've been looking at the screen more often. But yes, like Denmark, if I continuously hit the wrong letter over and over again, I'll look =o

I do both. I look at the screen and i occasionally look at the keyboard to make sure i'm typing right.

But i look at the keyboard more

A little of both, I tend to glance when I feel the urge to do so. Namely when I screw up a little too much.

I don't look at the keyboard for letters and numbers, but I do for every other key.

I'm a bad typer. I never really learned properly, even though all this forum usage has allowed me to develop my own two finger method, and I am improving. So a bit of both.

If i wanted to I can type without lookin at the keyboard, but I mess up a little bit sometimes. WEre learning how to keybaord in comp class. I rock at it. I can type sentences without ooking at the keyboard, but not whole essays.

That's why you should buy one of these. I don't look at my fingers. Too many long hours in front of a computer. My fingers don't sit properly on the home row since I never learned to type properly, but it all works out.

I look at my hands and the screen. I never learned to type completely the right way, but after being able to run 60+ WPM I figured it wasn't worth it to spend time retraining myself.

Right now,

Devil Man is looking at his signature as he types this

He LOVES the colour Pink! It is just adorable!

He will click on his signature once more, just for the Pleasure of it  :spin:

I can never really find myself typing in a comfortable position, so I'm always readjusting or fidgeting around when I type, so for stuff more detailed than "lol" (which ends up on msn as kik or ;p; at times too) I usually find myself looking at my keyboard more than my screen. The only thing I can probably not ever look at is the number pad.

1st I look keyboard then I write. xD

Couldn't you just simplify it by asking if we can touch-type?

Shauna
10-19-2006, 01:26 PM
No he couldn't, because, he's Devil Man. :P

And I do a little of both, I sometimes have a quick glance down if I feel that I don't know where the key I'm looking for is. xD

Loony BoB
10-19-2006, 03:01 PM
I touch type at over 80wpm, and can touch-type anything from letters to numbers to symbols to the F1 keys to the page up/down keys and... well, you get the idea.

starseeker
10-19-2006, 05:33 PM
I look at a mix of both. If I don't look at the keyboard my typing is slower and messier. If I look only at the keyboard I'm quicker but my neck hurts.

Zeldy
10-19-2006, 07:29 PM
I usually look at the keyboard before I type, just to get an idea where my hands actually are! If I make a typo, I look to see where I go wrong. Most of the time Im looking at the screen.
