[O] stands for origami now. Click for big versions. Please forgive the crappy photography.

The model is by Satoshi KAMIYA, folded by me. Made from a single uncut 45 cm. square of aluminum foil double-backed with tissue paper.

Holy moly Dr Unne!

I can't believe you can do that with paper. That's pretty amazing.

It needs some blue tissue paper molded into balls to represent Mega Flare.

Dr Unne
10-18-2006, 04:56 AM
Thank you for the replies.

It took me 5 hours not counting the time it took to make the paper. It wasn't frustrating, it's very relaxing. This is the second one I made though, maybe that's why. The first one is always harder.

A ball? That's against my principles.

Kawaii Ryűkishi

But they'd be fireballs. There's still craftsmanship to be injected there.

Nah, It is only cool and sweet~!

I don't really know much about origami, but whilst it looks cool somethings feel odd(and the sad part is I don't know what). Namely in the chest-arm areas. Of course that may be just cause of the limits of doing it with ONE sheet of paper[which is wicked cool].

You can use spray adhesive to attach tissue paper to the front and back of aluminum foil. Then it behaves like reallty strong, thin, flexible, shapeable paper.

Amazing. Any chance you could supply the patterns or where you got them for those of us who would like to duplicate your work? I have a nice collection of origami I've created myself, and I would love to add Bahamut and a Chocobo to that collection.

This is the book that contains those models: http://www.giladorigami.com/BO_Kamiya.html

The crease pattern for the chocobo is here: http://www.folders.jp/g/2001/chibi_chocobo.html I did succeed in making a chocobo from the crease pattern alone before I got the book, but it's much easier with the diagrams in the book obviously.

OK, here's approximately the second original model I've ever come up with. As you can see, the quality is a bit lacking compared to the stuff that's published in books, but this is hopefully recognizable, at least. I am proud of it regardless. Folded from a 4 inch square of tissue-foil.

(You have no idea how hard it is to get this thing to stand at that angle.)

This is the beginning of origami I'm making to send people for Christmas. Praying mantis by Robert lang from an 8 inch square of tissue-foil:

Jesus Christ, this is freakin' amazing.

You ought to show people how to make these.

Dr Unne
10-29-2006, 07:23 PM
Thanks. There are books with detailed instructions how to make these. The praying mantis is from the book Origami Insects 2 by Robert Lang. There are also origami clubs in many major cities all over the world. I do teach at the local origami club sometimes.

This is a goblin with a sword, by Nicolas Terry. Folded from an 18 inch square of tissue foil. He doesn't have much in the way of eyes. Just a big brow, which you can't see because of the angle I took the pictures from. And I messed up the top of his head a bit. He does have 4 fingers on each hand which is neat. And those are supposed to be two big fangs sticking out of his mouth.

You enjoy doing this, and you have somehow managed to convey that feeling in these.. structures I guess you could call them. It's like you've taken a little bit of joy and grounded it permanently in the physical.

nik0tine's description is right. :)

The praying mantis one was really great! They all are, but I love praying mantises so that's probably my favorite so far, along with Bahamut and Tiny Chocobo.
