I am doing a little joke on somebody at work. They said that they came from a planet a 100,000 light years away. Anyway as a joke I decided to figure out how many feet there would be in a 100,000 lightyears so she would know exactly how many steps it would take her to get back from where she came from so she could be on her way and not bug me anymore.

So anyways I figured up exactly how many feet there are and the number is

3,097,718,208,000,000,000,000

But does anybody know exactly what number that would be called. I know a million comes after a thousand, and a billion comes after a million, and a zillion comes after a billion, but what comes after a zillion and on up until we get to the three.

Noooo, trillion comes after billion. Zillion and Jillion are made up as far as I know.

Edit: Yeah, what Fred said.

3-sextillion, 97-quintillion, 718-quadrillian, 208-trillion feet.

Edit 2: Hah, yes. Fixed prefix for 6. Stupid Wikipedia.

It would actually be a sextillion, not a hexillion. Prefixes have the same meaning, it's just the one that's used.

Uh, yeah. I'm pretty sure "zillion" was made up on the playground.

According to Webster's (who's the biggest nerd, now, huh!?) the names are:

million
billion
trillion
quadrillion
quintillion
sextillion- 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 *

there's the one you need. Though, to be honest, I think your joke could use some work... ;)

Do it in scientific notation, just be like, "So you came from 3.097718208 x 10^21 feet away?"

Pretty sure Danish people stopped using Arabic numbers around 3,000 years ago.

Thanks guys now I can tell her to be on her way, lol.

By the way how many moneybins (as uncle scrooge called them) do you think it would take to hold three sextillion dollars.
