Is this a new trend that topic titles have nothing to do with the topic?
It's come to my attention that several times have I entered a topic only to question my sanity:
"How did I get here, I don't recall beef being on the menu."

So why?
Does it not seem more practical to tell an audience what to suspect?

Hypothetically consider this:

I want to write a topic about cats.
Big cats, little cats, fluffy cats, shaved cats, cats up trees, cats eating bees... you get the point.
So logically I suppose the best title for my topics would be... "Dogs!"

Now the problem is such that instead of attracting people who love cats, I'm in fact luring dog lovers into a pit of dispair and dissapointment (shame on me!). Not to mention that people who love cats and hate dogs are consequently going to be like "WTF Dogs. Psh - too cool fo' that - meow."

Plus it's annoying.

I think I've made my point.

Dishwasher refers to the title of the monkey, not the appliance, correct?

I sometimes have thoughts to hunt down and burn these individuals who inadequately name their thread titles.

If a person wishes to call their topic "Beef Eater's Annonamous" and make it about people's favourite pencils that's their business and no one else's. If they happen to get no one actually posting because the topic's got nothing to do with nothing then that's that. Usually though you'll find any topic will eventually be reasonably posted within since we have a lot of people around here who don't look at the topic title, they look at the first post.

People will go to great lengths to be considered funny, weird, crazy, etc.

I dislike it when thread titles are misleading.

Thread preview is a lifesaver.

It can be, but that's why a lot of the time, I won't click on a thread if there's nothing in the preview or nothing to give me an idea of what the thread is really about...probably my loss, but oh well...

For example:

thread title= (insert random gibberish)

thread preview= www.youtube.com....

That could be anything!

Thread preview is a lifesaver. Not really, now that people have learned that if they put their actual topic in quote tags, and instead make some smug comment along the lines of "Haha you have to open this thread to know what it's about!" thread preview doesn't tell you anything.

I don't really mind it, to be honest. Let 'em have their fun.

I'll show you, Chemical. Especially for that "Purple monkey dishwasher" remark!

I like it :P
Usually when I do that I make it clear what the topic is about in the first few lines so that you can just preview it :P

I don't ever read the topic names.

If we can have titles with no relevance to the thread, can with have posts with no relevance to the thread too?

I don't really care sometimes I find it funny, but then again I can remember being annoyed becuase i wanted to post about the title but instead it was talking about something else.

I have been making an effort to ensure overly obscure thread titles are adjusted when I feel they should be. I hope this enhances your Eyes on Final Fantasy experience.

The only thing that could enhance my Eyes on Final Fantasy experience is a massage chair. Feel free to adjust that problem, BoB.

That's why I hover over the link and see what it says before I go in. If I still can't determine the topic, I usually don't bother with it.
