Forrest Gump is a decent film and all (I like Gary Sinise's character a lot) but I have a few problems with it:

- The overwhelming sentimentality of it
- That 'life is like a box of chocolates' rubbish
- The film's slightly disturbing message, Forrest goes to Vietnam and serves his country without questioning anything and becomes famous, meets presidents and the like. His love Jenny joins a bunch of anti-war hippies and descends into a spiral of drink and drugs, and winds up dying of AIDS most probably. But maybe I'm reading way too much into it.
- It beat Pulp Fiction AND The Shawshank Redemption to Best Film at the Oscars!

My mama always said EoFF is like a box of chocolates...it's sweet and nice in small amounts, but inevitably sickening and unhealthy.

I still think that Pulp Fiction should have won for Best Picture that year and not Forrest Gump :mad2:

You could always ask a mod to do it ;D

Anyways. I've never seen the movie in its entirety, but I have been forced to watch it bits of it numerous times. And every single time has been in German class.

I don't have much of an opinion on it, but from what I saw, I was not very interested.

Overall, the film is better than average but far from the best movie ever made (Plenty would argue it wasn't even the best film of its year). Hanks though, solidified his career as one of the finer actors America has ever produced and overall, the movie was very enjoyable on many levels.

The film definitely spread a heckuva a lot of catch-phrases too.

Take care all.

I don't think I've ever heard of this movie. I guess it's really old, if it won an Oscar but I've never heard of it?

Do you consider 1994 old?

Yeah, it's not as good as its hype would indicate. But it is a classic. And Captain is definitely right about the catch-phrases. Run, Forrest, run!

Meh. Decent. But not nearly as "moving" and "deep" as it's made out to be. It's a verrry overrated movie.

And if I hear "life is like a box of chocolates..." one more time, there will be blood spilled.

Yeah this was one of my fav movies besides A.I. But the annoying part of the movie was "Ruen Forest Ruen!" the whole pronouncing oof run was just like that but I like the part where he says "Life is like a box of chocolate, you never know what you're gonna get" :D

But that's a stupid line as you DO know what you're going to get with a box of chocolates as they have something inside which tells you what each one is!

I tend to over-analyse these things... XD

I like movies that leave the audience with a question, and I think this one left a humdinger. Is it better to live a life of ignorance, to not know the people make fun of you or hate you for what you are, but to find love and to be happy, or is it better to know your stance in the world, and to understand what it is to hurt? Out of everything that could hurt him through the course of the film and the novel, Forrest was genuinely hurt by one thing; the death of Jenny. The death of Bubba and of his mother didn't affect him quite so much as her's did.

I can't remember the question in relation to Animal Farm because it's been a long time, but it's a parallel to the Socratic pig thing, I felt. The movie executes this idea wonderfully, mainly due to the acting in it. The direct was okay, and while I do love the soundtrack, the music selection gave the film a nostaligic feeling, which I didn't think was very appropriate.

I like this movie a lot.

I've seen the alternate version "Forest Hump" though that one was a bit naughty for my tastes. Kids ask your parents for it by name, I approve.

I hated the film.

The story, however, is quite moving.

Forrest Gump was an amazing film and I had the book somewhere. Tom Hanks and Gary Sinse are brillaint in it. Still makes me cry.
