View Full Version : What should Bombs' weakness(es) be?

I guess this thread goes here.
In each of the FF games they keep changing the weakness of Bombs. In FF2 their weakness is Fire and Bolt but in FF6 they absorb Fire and are weak against Ice. It's so confusing and weird!!
Anyways, what do you think Bomb's weaknesses should be?

Ice. They're a fiery enemy and ice is the counter to fire in the FF world.

Ice, its pretty simple, unless they start making ice bombs and thunder bombs, then you would have a debate.

Yes, but after six (correct me if I'm wrong...and I usually am) Bomb's (in all its incarnations) weakness is Ice, which, as previously posted, makes sense, since most Bombs' animations involve flames.
and the result of most bomb explosions IRL (I love that that phrase has an acronym) produce fire.

I would say Ice, but I love the fact that in FFIV you can hit one Bomb/Grenade with your weakest Thunder and watch them implode killing everyone else around them.

I'd say Ice, and maybe Water too. The Bombs are fiery enemies that can explode, so an Ice/Water weakness would be a reasonable choice for them.

I was kinda shocked that bombs where weak against fire in FFXI, but now it makes more sense to me. So yeah, I voted fire water and ice... But I guess it all depends on what FF you're playing really, and the "rules" it goes by :P

I voted Ice. But Water should also do the trick. Anything opposing Fire, basically.

There is no debate Ice is their weakness in mostly all FFs.

Water and ice... I'd lean more toward water cus bombs are fire elemental and water would extinguish a fire, and ICE+FIRE=WATER...

I'm thinking ice because they look pretty firey to me. Ice is the opposite of fire and blah blah blah. you get the idea.

There are Ice Bombs in FFT:A, which are weak to fire. There might even be lightning and earth bombs, I just haven't seen any yet.

I think most bombs in the real world are waterproof, and after they explode it's too late by then. Water would only quench the aftereffects! But with enough ice, you might lower the temperature so far that they may not happen at all, or like in the X-Men 2, just build a wall of ice to contain them :p
The FF elements system doesn't make much sense realistically; water conducts electricity after all :p
Just use shiva that should take cear of them lol shes ice or that lathiathen(sorry cnt spell lol) off ff7 the big water snaky thing:confused:

While this is true, bombs in the real world aren't living creatures with pudgy faces and spinities.
When I'm concerned with the weakness of a bomb-type enemy in an FF game, I use that game's "scan" spell or option and wait for the results.
I wasn't aware that they were weak to fire in 4. I knew they were weak to water/ice in 6, most notably the situation in Thamsa when you meet Strago, and he conviniently has Aqua Rake, which does wonders.
But you're right about the elements system not making sense. It really doesn't make sense. I do still love it, though. I wish they still called it "Lit" "Lit-2" and "Lit-3" instead of "Thunder" "Thundara" and "Thundaga".
Seriously, think about that. Thunder? Thunder isn't harmful, at least not like the lightning that hits your enemy when you cast "Thundara". I'm pretty sure that "Thunder" is the noise that you hear shortly after seeing a bolt of "Lightning".
I guess I could live with "Bolt", "Bolt-2" and "Bolt-3", but I just don't care for the suffixes. I mean, I don't confuse them or anything, but they just don't sound cool. Well, I don't think so anyway.
Yeah, I don't know what Bombs should be weak to... Maybe matches?

In FF2 Bombs' weaknesses are Fire and Bolt. Ice does normal damage to them.

A bomb's weakness should be fire. I imagine it would blast through ice, but fire should set it off prematurely. Thus, it would blow itself up, but nobody and nothing else.
Because, really, is it a "fire" enemy? No. It's a "bomb" enemy. It's explosive. Nuclear. They're two different animals.
Edit: Now I wish I'd voted for Lightning also. (I refuse to vote on Thunder as a synonym for Lightning. Thunder is a loud noise. That's it.)
i ticked Earth cuz i was thinking "EARTH IS REALLY GOOD WHEN FIGHTING FIRES!!!"
but then i remembered that bombs float :-[
