And it dawned upon me. Hit me like a brick in the face. Like ice water running down the back of your shirt whilst dozing.

Anyway... I love System of a Down. Attended two of their concerts, have three SoaD shirts, and an autpgraphed picture of the band.

Now, of course, you all are just gleaming with absoloute joy about being reminded how freakin' badass System of a Down is, and you want to express this everlasting joy. Vote and post, my little pawns, vote and post.

Oh. My. Bad.

Your absoloutely right!

System of a Down is too cool for General Chat. System of a Down is not general. It's cosmically amazing.

I believe you meant - "Wake up! Grab a brush and put on a little makeup!"

But, of course, as a System of a Down fan, you knew that. :P

I like a few tracks from their first three albums, particularly Spiders. However, a few good tracks don't excuse the massive amount of crap they've released.

My college friend (who got me into them), went to a concert of theirs with her ex. He was behind her, holding her and so his arms were round her waist. She notcied something was strange after awhile, to discover a third hand ... but this third hand was on her left breast! She freaked, screaming and the guy ran off!

Ha! She said it made the concert more memorable!

While I haven't listened to much of them lately, I really like their music. I'm really glad I got to see them at Ozzfest this year because it might possibly be one of the last times they'll ever play live. They put on a kickass show by the way.

Prety much worthless all around, I don't see why they are so popular. Actually I do, and it is a bull reason, "LAWLZ SOAD RZZZ YOUNEEK."

Hardly.

Pretty good band, especially live. It's neat to see how their musical style has been progressing album-after-album, from the heaviness of their self-titled album to the almost poppyness of Mesmerize/Hypnotize. I do think the latter should have been released as a double album though, would probably have made it cheaper, but it's not as if they're the first band to have ever pulled that trick, Metallica's Load and Reload albums for instance (and to be fair, in both cases it's more likely to have been a record label thing rather than the actual bands).

I especially love their first album, since it carries so many memories for me of one long summer that absolutely rocked. For that, SoaD will always have a spot in my collection.

They couldn't be described as a bad band, no matter if someone likes their music or not, simply because of the musical ideas they explore and the talent they possess.
Myself, I used to listen to them a lot, and were definitely my favourite band for a good year.

Exploration of ideas and instrumental talent do not make a band good.

They are horrible.

Also, their lyrics make no sense. Ok if you have to be high to write music, just stay away from the drugs while you write the lyrics, or it'll be complete nonsense, like SOAD's lyrics.

I personally like mesmerize/hypnotize/toxicity, plus the zelda song ^ ^

it opened up a diffrent mindset for me, and helped me to expand my musical tastes and to appreciate other kinds of music, even though if some of thier songs were creepy. Im also glad that they are going on a hiatus, and not getting bogged down with the attention and fame they have acquired.

all in all, one of my favs.

They have talent and they have some good songs, but in my opinion.... Not an awesome band by a long shot. Actually, they are pretty average.

True that. They're one of the bands where I don't even bother trying to understand their message unless it's presented clear as day, because I know I'd be wasting my time.

I dig them a lot. Not so much their first album, but Toxicity and onward is pretty gr8.

Wow, I didn't know SoaD had so many haters. May God have mercy on your soul.

Toxicity was their best Album, most definately. Mes. and Hyp. were both really good. I personally cannot find a song of theirs I hate. I don't like a few of them, but I don't despise any of their music. Anyway, thanks for the comments.

The self-titled would be their best work, in my opinion. I don't consider them anything special, there are heavier bands, more creative bands, more technical bands, catchier bands and more talented bands that I could be listening to instead.

I tend to forget how much I love SoaD, but then when I realize I don't really get tired of them and that I've been going to sleep 75% of the past few years to Toxicity, I'm filled with much love.

Then comes SNL, teaching me, that on that one day, they could not match a chord, in Aerials no less. Unless they can match as well as they do on CD, I don't plan on seeing them in concert, I've had the idea in mind that they had the ability to harmonize like angels, and SNL kind of shot that down. I DON'T WANT TO SEE THE TRUTH... I love them. ; ;

Pretentious? How am I pretentious? It's not my fault you hate System of a Down. In fact, if I am not mistaken, it's yours. And, I'm not a twat either. :)

I like their early works ... the self titled i assume thats what you're refering to when you say SoaD ?

I like the self titled, Toxicity is ok, and STA is ok to. After that i really don't care to listen to anymore from them. While they aren't the worst band i've heard, after listening to them for a while i just get sick and tired of hearing that whiney douche warble.

The fact the lyrics make no sense doesn't bother me, but IMHO they are just played out.

And yea i laughed really hard when i saw them on SNL ... makes me glad i went to see other concerts rather than theirs when i had the chance. I bet the tickets are laced with LSD and you're sooo high you don't realize that they suck ass live.

But seriously, who cares why you left the keys upon the table ... ?
Ho hum ...

I think I remember seeing that episode. I don't know much about the technical side of music but from what I remember, they sounded pretty damn good when I saw them in concert this past summer.

They are good in concert, though not because of any technical musical skill. They're just exciting performers. They're not bad musically, just not as technically gorgeous as some other bands(they're no Tool). Almost all current bands, in fact, are musical neanderthals compared to bands of the past like Pink Floyd or Rush. When it comes down to it, unless you're an arrogant Fascist, if the music's enjoyable it doesn't matter how elaborately technical it is. Of course, ultimately it's most desirable to hear perfectly organized music that is enjoyable as well, but that doesn't mean that sloppy enjoyable music can't be...enjoyed... as well.
No friggin clue what was up with the SNL debacle, but it may be a case like DMB's wherein quitting drugs/alcohol has a definate adverse effect on musical ability.
I do agree, though, that some of their stuff is utter nonsense. Even Korn's "Twist" is more provocative and intuitive than some of the garbled muck that SoaD produces.
Nevertheless in the midst of the muck there are some jewels.
I particularly enjoy Forest.

I'm sorry but it isn't my fault that he thinks me disliking a band he likes is a big enough issue to warrant saying something as fucking patronizing as "May god have mercy on your soul."

I don't go around telling people "May Odin watch over your sad self" when I think they do something totally fucking stupid, or that I disagree with. Idiots will not get away with patronizing me via pushing their god upon me.

I don't care if I am making a big deal of this, it is fucking .

Crushed Hope, you do a lot of the pretentious thing in music threads yourself, telling other people their opinions on music is invalid, or that their taste is terrible. These are your opinions, and if you can present them in a respectful manner then we're all okay. If you can't be respectful, then don't say anything at all.

Saying a band is horrible, saying someone has taste in music, etc is one thing and simply a part of my critical and elitist nature but to patronize me to the point of saying "May god have mercy on your soul" because I dislike a band is total bull.
