*cough* No thread on this yet? Didn't turn up in the search anyways.
First an Introduction for those of you who are not fanactics in general and thus are out of the loop.
OS-tan's and other -tan's are characters made to represent various OS'es and other such things. You can see a -tan for just about anything. In addition, at least in the case of the more common OS'es, there is a semi-set design and personality for them. Let's introduce a few, shall we?

To represent this ME-tan is quite incapable of doing much right. Clumsy, freezing and crashing all the time is common. However, ME-tan is a popular tan. I guess it makes an interesting character.
Comic panel ex. - http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/8819/twda10persevereme1enlv0.th.jpg (http://img215.imageshack.us/my.php?image=twda10persevereme1enlv0.jpg) _http://img149.imageshack.us/img149/3826/twda11persevereme2endi5.th.jpg (http://img149.imageshack.us/my.php?image=twda11persevereme2endi5.jpg)
I also got a funny one of ME being prankish... but a couple of the scenes could possibly get me in trouble for the overt sexual nature of them(doesn't show anything, I don't think, but I'll cover my rear just in case).

It uses up more resources than other Window OS'es and actually more than just about every OS I have tried. Oddly enough they represent this in how much she eats and/or her breast size(breast size = ram?! that is what I got out of one of the comic panels I read). Usually depicted in fairly gluttonous manner(wanting more 'ram').

Windows 2000 Professional edition(the one who cheers ME-tan up in the comic above) is a realiable character. And definately one of the more 'profesional' looking of the OS-tans.
And I'll post up a Linux Tan image just for fun.http://img142.imageshack.us/img142/9876/spaceshipanotherversionli5.th.jpg (http://img142.imageshack.us/my.php?image=spaceshipanotherversionli5.jpg)
And one final group image-http://img183.imageshack.us/img183/5255/1161246187663hp7.th.png (http://img183.imageshack.us/my.php?image=1161246187663hp7.png)
Here is an OP even! (http://ironfrost.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/)
Now this is more than just a info thread. OR even a picture thread. I ask you:
A) what do you think of 'trends' like these?
B) Do you think the depictions and view of the OS'es and other tans are correct?
C) What do you think lead to the personalization of the OS'es? [reminds me of persocoms from Chobits]
D) anyother thing someone can say on it. In other words a general topic in the general discussion forum.
