This is just a poll to see what everyone else is doing. I picked up the game this morning and played for about an hour. I played the demo, so I had a bit of experience with the battle system, and as soon as I could, I turned on wait time to active. What about the rest of you? Do you use wait or active? And why do you like it?

I think that when in Feb i pick the game up i'll leave it on Wait. I prefer more strategical battles.. although, you can never really say that months before you play it. I'll wait and see. :)

Oh man, Wait annoyed me so much. I had to switch to Active even though it does give you way less time. I love being able to freely move though while selecting an action.

Since you can put gambits on the character you control too, you don't really have to make ultra-quick reflex decisions if you get ambushed. There's really no point to using wait unless you're still getting used to the menus or are just ungodly slow.
It really helps keep the pace of the game fun and frantic if you keep it in active.

I've been playing it for the last six hours and i've been using Wait. I'll probably keep it like that for a while, maybe switch it up later.

I think I have never played a FF game on active mode. I just do not think about it at all. I just go mostly with defaults though I enable rumble and I had to adjust the screen positioning. For some odd reason my screen is ever so slightly tilted...
On all my Final Fantasies possible, I set battles to Active on Speed 1/Fastest/etc. Makes it more exciting.

Uh, Wait. "I don't want to die while trying to ressurect my healer" applies to this game more than any other Final Fantasy.

I have mine set to Wait. Especially during bosses when I'm trying to decide what to do next. There's no point in changing it to go from point A to point B, because if I need make a sudden desicion that's not already in my Gambits, it's very quick so it doesn't slow down the game pace.

i use wait right now. it doesnt bother me at all. when i get more comfortable with the battle system i may change it, but then again i may not.

I usually use Wait Mode in other games, but considering the way FFXII's battle system revolves entirely around Gambits and automated strategy, using Wait here would just be missing the point entirely.

Geh, i prefer Wait. I've never tried Active in any FF...and i'm not about to start in this game. The battles are already kinda frantic, i dont want to make it any worse on myself, i've already had problems with "fran! heal Vaan!" *fran dies* "crap! vaan! heal yourself!" *vaan dies*

I prefer wait mode. Just to make sure I didn't press wrong or I like to plan my battle carefully. But in FFXII, I just leave the rest to Gambit.

*nods* The planning is very nice. I like to be able to rotate the camera, see whats coming at me, see what or who has the most health or the least health, pick out what should be killed first, who should be healed first

I tried this and got thoroughly hammered by the enemies I was facing about 6 hours into the game. I'm not sure if it was poor management given the speed or if I just had really poor gambits set. I eventually brought the speed down to 3 from the slowest but still using active, and this seems to be working somewhat well. The action is still fast with room for error, but nothing unmanageable.

active. more exciting and alot more challenging.

Although with kids, phone and other daily interruptions I usually leave it on wait, so I can pause during battles to take care of a domestic crisis :eep:

u have a choice in final fantasy 12 if u want it wait or active??
Ouch!

It's the first option under the configuration menu.
Normally I use active, but occasionally I switch in to wait when I want to change my strategy temporarily in boss fights without completely rearranging my gambits to do it.
