Basch or Balthier

However, Balthier is just awesome. I kind of regret not using him, but I'll have that for next time.

What's with all the gun hate. I know their attack power is lower, but with the ignore defense bit they end up doing the same as the rest. And they're slower than bows, but they have 100% accuracy.

Anyway, I like them both, but Balthier is definitely the winner of this situation.

Yeah true, they are helpful in certain situation, but it's not my preference for a Final Fantasy weapon I guess. I'm a swords/katanas/daggers kinda guy.

FFVII: DoC urked me a bit because all I could use was the gun, but hey, it was only one game, so I survived, and enjoyed it. :D

i dont use either :D

my main party is Ashe(with a sword/sheild) Vaan(with either a spear or a Greatsword) and then Penelo(with a pole or a ninja sword)

and Vaan and penelo use all magick and Ashe knows White Magick and all Augments while the other 2 are just heading into the augments

although there for a while i was training my other 3 people and Baltheir with a Spear and Basch with Sword and Sheild was pretty amazing...i just find fran's stats to be very low

I haven't used Balthier since I had to, I don't think. And I'm not really sure why. I much prefer him as a character. At some point I started using Vaan, Fran, and Basch, and then I would've had to level Balthier up to include him in my party and have him be worthwhile, and I just didn't feel like doing that. If I thought there was any reason using one or the other in my party would somehow affect their presence in the cutscenes, I'd drop Basch and use Balthier in a second.

Balthier, but i still use Bashe a little bit...he's kinda my first choice in backup. I think balthier is just cooler in personality so i use him more.

I love Balthier's character but I use Basch as tank so in my game, Balthier (along with Fran and Penelo) played second fiddle to Ashe, Vaan, and Basch.

If I ever start a new game I'll use my second fiddle characters as my main crew that time around (I'd feel bad neglecting Ashe tho--I just adore her). xD

Vaan, Basch and Baltier are my high HP, high hitters party. I use the girls for healing and fliers since my Fran has a killer bow :D

I really don't use either one of them. My main and highest hp party are Vaan, Ashe, and Penelo and they really kick butt at it. I am trying to keep everyone all on the same level, but as to which one ( Basch or Balthier ) is my favorite...........um.......... Everyone is mostly equal at everything in this game so you should definitely go with whatever characters you like the most for storyline reasons. (On of the things I do like about this game)

I am partial to Ashe, Balthier and Basch. I never really got attached to Fran, and I despise Vaan and Penello.

But Basch, Fran and Ashe are good too.

In the end my vote goes to Balthier, hes so chill.

Tie. I prefer Basch in terms of battle and stat. Basch+Axes+Shield=Unstoppable Killing Machine.
But Balthier surpasses Basch in terms of personality and character.

Balthier use Super Volley Bullet while Basch use Kamehameha. Balthier send Tsunami while Basch use Kungfu. Balthier use Meteor while Basch play with his sword.
I like both of their Quickening. I like Basch better because it's the only Quickening I can mimic. :(

I keep everyone at equal levels, but I like Basch more in combat. Give him an axe/hammer and haste him and he will become one of the most efficient damage machines in the game.

Basch FTW, but i like Balth.'s witiness. It was suggested in Gamefaqs.com that you should only have 3 main people. I agree because it's a hassle and waste to train all other members or even a 4th. Btw should only 1 character have Shield/Sword cuz i have 2? :/

Training all party member is safe-play. If three of your main party was destroyed, you still have the reserve to revive, fight or run. When you only train three people, you have to be more careful. If your party was banished, you're down to three weak-reserve, you can't fight, chances to revive other your main party are low, because they probably die in one hit and chances to run are also low, you can be safe but you should at least get one attack from an enemy while running, which knock you off, already.

I train everybody equally, but I too have "first string" and "second string".

Personally I prefer Balthier in terms of personality, he's probably my favorite character of the bunch. As I wanted to make a team that consistently had one ranged-weapon user and two frontliners, I made first string Vaan, Balthier, and Penelo (when I first started, I figured Penelo would have a larger role than she does since she's linked to Vaan more). Once Vaan gains a level, Basch takes over as party lead (and the character I control, which will always be either Vaan or Basch), Fran is next replacing Balthier, and finally Ashe replacing Penelo.

Just kinda turned out that way. I do like all the characters though.

Basch is great for getting through a tough area where there's a bunch of mobs attacking together. But he's not at all versatile.
Balthier, however, is the go-to guy for tough boss fights. Vaan is my hardhitter/tank so Basch is just redundant. Balthier's guns/xbows have the added status effects that make him much more valuable.
I do keep both of them leveled though.
Outside of battle, there's no comparison. Balthier ^_^

Agreed... Took me long to actually like Basch because of that. But eventually I ended up preferring him over Balthier. A Auron like personality with good looks to boot ? What's not to like ?

I used Basch my first time through, but Balthier was VERY close to replacing him (and did sometimes.) I like Vaan, Ashe, and either of them, I'm still torn as to which one of them I'd prefer.

You will actually found out that Basch have better strength and magicks power than Balthier. Vaan, Balthier and Basch have better strength than Ashe, they deal more damage. Basch have the best strength, he deal more damage than Ashe unless if you have your Ashe to be 10 levels higher than Basch.

If you look more, Balthier is more the RAW strength.

As the only logical way to decide who my party members are is by an impromptu "Who's da hottest?" contest, Balthier never leaves the spot of party leader on my game. Other than him I rotate everyone, but my Basch is neglected a little.
Balthier and Basch are both appealing in completely different ways...as was pointed out well a few posts up. I like Balthier b/c he is a sexy smartass who seems to be in it for the adventure, but I think Basch is admirable as the classically hot loyal knight who is in this because his life has no meaning otherwise.
I don't know about either one having intrinsic strengths over the other, but just for who they are as characters I use Balthier way more.

I used to go for pirate types but somehow Baltier rubs me the wrong way. Heaven knows why, maybe his haughty way and looks (I'm "allergic" to those as of recently) Or maybe after seeing Jack Sparrow pirates are not as manly for me... Or maybe cause he is already "taken". Hard to put my finger on it.

Bottom line, Basch rocks my socks :D

haha well I only have 4 people in my party because it takes FOREVER to get Penelo and Ashe in my party. so of the 4 my main party now is Basch, Fran, and Balthier in that order but whenever i want a new party i go to Vaan, Basch, and Fran just to mix things around for now lol. i shouldnt even be posting because im so early into the game still i think haha.

Balthier has good character and a fair bit of good in him, despite being a pirate. Liked the scene in Nalbina in the pit....
