I'm passively interested in this -- I was told (indirectly as I have not studied biology) that this is impossible (for those who haven't clicked yet, it's a cat that gave birth to animals with dog characteristics after being sexed up by a dog).

I want to look this up but have no idea what to search for. I tried crossbreed but that's breeding different breeds of dogs together (ie a mutt).

*confused*

Lol I didn't know that was possible. Don't they have different genetic amino acids and chromosomes? Thats like Homo Sapien + Gorilla Gorilla.

Leeza does not approve of the mixing of cats and dogs. :(

I think this is so neat! I didn't think such different species could be crossbred. The biggest crossbreed I can think of is the liger/tigon, but lions and tigers are still in the cat family. :]

Exactly! I have no idea how this can be remotely possible. It's either photoshop or a hoax :(

Of course it's possible. See?

In fourth grade, someone told me that she had a bunny/cat hybrid. Hmm.

I don't know whether to believe it! :p

My puppy does some cat-like things. He stalks his toys and then pounces on them. :jess:

Ok, at first I thougth - that is not possible, but maybe it is. Even if cats and dogs are genetically different, who's to say that they can't mutate and eventually mate with each other... but weird indeed. I will try and ask my laboratory teacher on Monday. But I seriously doubt that it can happen.

Wow....news nowadays really has plummeted.

But anyway, I'm gonna say it's possible because I want to. It's just very unlikely.

Yes I have.

I say it isnt possible for one reason and one reason only even if it might be possible to mate them gentically...cats and dogs are natural enemies and hence there isnt or shouldnt be any catty/doggy love!!

I think we would've heard lots of incidents of this if it was possible. :p They're the two most common pets after all.

But, y'know, there's always catfish and bulldog.

Silly idiot Chevvy. Bulldog is so called because it can withstand getting kicked in the face by a bull. And catfish...I think it's the whiskers?

Think of the possiblities. Dogs that can pounce on you from the top of trees. Dogs that will acually be clean and fun to hang around. BTW I'm a cat person.

I've seen a cabbit before! But before I could take a picture of it, it turned into a space ship and flew off...

I thought this was about kittens on hotdog buns.

that is kind of interesting, it reminds me of that south park episode where stan gets banished from south park and lives with the peta people, and the one human-animal couple had a kid and it was hideous looking.

Wouldn't it be a dat? I mean normally the naming goes the first letter from the father and the rest from the mother...

Anyways, I do not know how exactly it is possible. I mean I know you can cross horses and donkeys and such, though the hybrids are sterile. I am not too sure, but wouldn't the number of chromosonal pairs have an effect on your ability to cross species?

I call hoax.

I kinda like the sound of cog more though. It's just....... more appealing

Actually, this isn't a new concept. People have been developing a breed of Cats with dog-like traits for a while now, called puppykats (http://www.nctimes.com/articles/2006/03/20/news/californian/31906192121.txt). Personally, I think it's one more step towards humans trying to play God. But hey, what do I know?

Epic necromancing of a thread there, chap. Suppose there's nothing else to do but call bollocks on whatever it was, pretend to be interested, have a biscuit and watch the thread get locked and forgotten. Or deleted and send to the pentagon or something. Yeah. >_>

I'm interested in what made you decide to check out if it was a hoax or not 4 years later.
