View Full Version : New Final Fantasy MMORPG (Trying to make a concept… >_<)

Im starting off with how I want the gameplay... by first making the class descriptions and basic pros (I intend to also make the cons eventually).

The ones marked Non-Attainable are going to be only spotted as NPC and Story related characters.

Battle System -
FFXI had a solid battle system.

I want to sort of change a few things, like how the battle system worked, sort of formed like a Active Turn Based Battle System (but making it convenient so it doesn’t feel like you are waiting for the opponent to take their turn >_> which would make it intolerable like Shot Online) but keeping some of the better aspects of FFXI like the threat system and some other things which I am not quite sure of yet…

Storyline Introduction-
Story wise I want it to be very story driven so it doesn’t feel like a grind.
The opening FMV starts out, it is without music for most of the part.

The screen fades into a scene where Priestess Tala is tending to her duties at Cathedral [insert location name here] reminiscing on how respected she is after the many years of tending to the Elementals (equivalent to Demi-gods in the place) she then walks into a dimly lit hallway “please forgive me Tala” says a man who you can only form out through voice and his very covering armour (looks to be Paladin).
Tala and the mysterious man touch fingers together, a tear of acceptance drizzles out from Tala’s eyes before the screen fades again.
Then as the screen slowly fades into what seems to be a jagged formation of rocks on a small remote island, it is currently day time now.
Music slowly begins to fade in (Eerie Organ things, look at attachment for a listen) as you see this man in armour (same one as before) staring upward to the formation ceiling… it slowly zooms out with him in his armour still looking upward.
The music stops as you see Tala in a coma-like state levitating.

It doesn’t give much away about the actual story… but it gives away perhaps some of the more sinister plot sort of.

After that you are taken to the Tutorial area, which seems to be a floating isle that is nothing more than fields of grassy hills, small forests and a Temple situated in the middle.
Which is when the character creation and actual game start.

Job Classes-

Soldier
The medics in frontline.

Versatile on the battle field, being able enfeeblers and wielding 2 handed weapons quite effectively among other weapons.

Fighter

The wonder that turns fighting with most weapons into a beautiful art.

Quite quick masters of the Sword and Club and boasts a small variety of spells unique to the class.

Greedy thieves usually attack lone travellers.

Living simple lives in many types of wilderness, they keep the menagerie interesting.

Can Capture Monsters and also store their souls for uses when being a different class.

The wisest are renowned for being able to cast Giga Flareja and would take out entire cities if they became reckless.

okay... I want Ideas, Weapon Limit ideas, what type of weapons should be useable, why you hate me for not letting Redmage be selectable... and also names of locations (including location concepts)
Storyline concepts and main character concepts etc, much obliged in advance :D

ps: as you can see the basis of the classes are still very incomplete... >_>

psps: that is an edited track from the Drakengard OST, because I feel it would suit that state of mind perfectly.

pspsps: I suppose I will have to upload the tune up to youtube... or could someone please tell me where I can upload files like that (it is WMA and I have a WAV version to, the MP3 encoder wont work)?

pspspsps: feedback definetly wanted :D

edit: T_T

Well, I've never played FFXI so I'm not familiar with its technical aspects, but I have a few suggestions:
- I like that there are a lot of classes to choose from, but it seems like some of them are repetitive or could be merged into one class (ex. soldier & fighter, hunter & beastmaster)
- in World of Warcraft, there's an area called Duskwood, which is really dark and spooky, and has an interesting backstory involving zombies (I think). I think something vaguely like that would be fun to have :)
- if you can't post the WAV directly on this site for legal reasons, maybe you could try finding a midi of the song and posting it here

Good luck on it!

its not in a midi. its an edit (edited by Me and Goldwave).

I like the duskwood Idea.

I am thinking the areas are going to be set onto thousand of differant little isles, like a world that has shattered or something...

job wise. they arent going to so much be merged... slightly varied so far, I want to sort of differ the core of how they are played so they are all useful in some way.

Updates -

1. After I get home from work, I am going to finish off the basic descriptions of all classes.

2. Juggler Renamed to Dirge.

3. Gadgeteer Renamed to Requiem.

4. Once done working on descriptions... going to work on the core unique elements of a certain class.

edit: 5. once enough info documents... turn it into squenix for thought?

okay, this heavillllly edited snippet might give you a further Idea of how I could see (through my eyes) how the intro would complete.
