Just got back from seeing this, and it was bloody brilliant. This is the best Bond since the start of Rogers outings, its that good.

People were questioning whether Daniel Craig would be a good Bond, and I can safely say he is one of the best, far superior to Piece, Timothy and Roger, but still dosent have anything on Sean who's top spot is still safe.

Casino Royale was alot more different than any Bond film you've seen before, alot darker in tone and dosent throw as much action as the last couple of films, not to say there isnt any action at all. There sure is, the first 20 or so minutes are pretty hectic, but you would likely be paying just as much attention to the none action segments. Ive never been as glued to a Poker game as I was in Casino Royale's, the tension was killing me.

If your a Bond fan, you've lilkely to have already seen the movie, but even if your not one, this is the best movie that has been released this year and I recommend it highly. Screw Borat, Casino Royale deserves your time alot more.

Bond 22 is set to release in 2008, I cant friggin wait.

Yeah, I watched it yesterday and it was pretty awesome.

I've never really liked the Bond films, but this was different to the others and I gotta say I'm glad.

However, I didn't like the last part of the film where everything was all lovely and perfect, at that point I felt the film was being stupid and dragging on. But the "The name's Bond, James Bond" line at the end made up for it, as cheesey as it was.

The "Shaken or stirred? Do I look like I give a damn?" line was pretty awesome too.

I would like to point out that this is merely one man's opinion.

Also, let the record show that Martyr agrees with this opinion and moves to call it fact.

I like James Bond very much and I am glad that they have started over and went a different route. The last 2 were really starting to get out of hand with gadgets.

I like Craig but I am not calling him the better than Peirce yet. They played different Bonds with different scripts.

I wish they would maybe bring back some of the Bond Villans they killed in previous movies since they have started over but I think they have stated that we will not see Blofeld, Goldfinger or any one else. I really wonder how they will build up this organization (SPECTRE is out and SMERSH is not going to work either) that Bond will try to tackle over the next few movies.

I thought it was absolutely awesome. I especially liked the Vodka Martini line. As well as Richard Branson getting searched.

EDIT: And the bit with the 'rope and chair' brought a new meaning to pain. I was squirming in my seat.

I don't think you can really compare Brosnan and Craig. The Bonds they played had completely different personalities which the actors seemed to be the perfect cast choice for.

Brosnan was an amazing ladykiller-Bond while Craig is a great tough guy-Bond. While they both dabble in both categories, they really shine in one side or the other.

Honestly, it's all preference. Though I can say I was extremely skeptical walking into the theater Friday, and left completely satisfied.

I'm fairly sceptical of Craig. He does not have the right look of a Bond IMO. And I don't really care enough about Bond to bother going to see whether my suspicions are justified or not, so... evs. I suppose if the chance comes up I'll see it, but between Connery and Brosnan, it's hard to envision he has a chance.

Craig is frickin' awesome, second only to Connery (the face of Bond).

Craig is certainly a less wooden actor than Brosnan, Moore, and (god forbid) Dalton.

Roger Moore is the Bond for me.

I haven't seen this new Bond, and I'm not really that invested in it.

For me it will probably be in this order:

Craig > Connery > Brosnan > Moore > Dalton > Lazenby

Casino Royale was absolutely one of the best Bond movies so far. Craig returned the character to his roots by presenting a tough, cocky, yet vulnerable character who wasn't a superhero. The movie was smartly directed and wisely focused on character development as much as action, though a few more scenes of Bond blowing things up wouldn't have hurt too much. It dragged on a bit in the last half hour or so, but I still loved the movie. Definitely the best since Goldeneye, and maybe even better than that. As for the older Bonds, I think Timothy Dalton was actually really good in the role. He was a more serious Bond, like Craig, and The Living Daylights is my favorite Bond movie of all time. It's awesome to see Craig take the character back to his roots and be more like Connery. Can't wait for the next one.

Fantastic. Easily my favorite Bond film. The B&W Maltese Falcon style intro was awesome, as well as the parkour homage that followed. Everything about this one was top-notch. This is a good direction for Bond. Here's hoping for many more Martin Campbell/Daniel Craig films to continue to follow that direction.

Goldeneye > All Bond movies

I have to agree there, it's the only Bond film I've seen that I havn't hated - I'm sure Craig will make a great Bond, it's just I see the franchise as the same damn film remade 22 times over. But then as is obvious I'm not a Bond fan, so these films are hardly for me.

Wait, didnt Brosnan leave of his own accord?
No.

For the record, Dalton was a pretty good Bond, he was meant to appear in 3 movies but only did 2 due to A Lisence to Kill doing poorly in the Box office ( thus why the 6 year wait for another Bond ).

Brosnan was not my favourite Bond, his character had to much charm, who tries harder to say smart alec quotes at the right time than actually doing the job. There is a certain down to earth grittiness to Bond that Craig dished out very well which is what Brosnan never had. Brosnan's movies relied too much on gadgets as well, all of them leading up to a big drawn out action scene in which they are all used in a clever way, too predictable.

Connery is Bond, every other Bond took one aspect of him and left it at that. Connery had all of them, thus being the perfect Bond.

And then theres Moore, who is Connery, just not as good on all levels.

As for Lazenby, I liked him alot, he should of had more time on screen.

In order it goes.

Connery, Craig, Lazenby, Dalton, Moore, Brosnan.

I saw it last night and it was fantastic. Craig's already my favourite Bond xD Not that I really liked any of the other Bonds in the first place. This one and Goldeneye were the only ones I've actually ENJOYED watching. So woo.

The movie didn't blow me out of my seat, but that's not what Bond does. Good movie, good Bond. I really liked the opening action sequence. Very acrobatic.

I had asians next to me scoffing. I guess they haven't heard of parkour (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parkour). I read the opening sequence would have it, but I had no idea what it would be (pertaining to -- I am famililar with parkour).

Anyway, the entire movie was very entertaining. I have no memory of previous bond films (the Pierce Brosnan films) were about, or how good they were, but they didn't entertain me like this film did.

Plus an old fashioned poker game based plot is very much appreciated.

So that was Richard Branson! and yes the rope and chair was painful just watching it. the film was very smooth flowing imo it didnt stop, maybe had a slight pause to let the audience catch a quick breath but that was it, an extremly good movie

Heh, I didn't feel anything over the chair scene. It was a good film overall - certainly something original in the Bond franchise. Not brilliant, but way above average.

Yeah I thought it was awesome. Though much as I approve of the idea of starting over and abandoning the horrific slide that the last few films went through (imagine if they'd actually managed to keep going downhill from Die Another Day), I do think they could have had a little more needless action sequencesin the middle, it IS a Bond film after all.

Also there weren't really any moments (apart from the VERY last scene) where I really got the feeling that this was Bond, and only Bond. Like in The World is Not Enough where Brosnan straightened his tie underwater, or any ridiculous stunt or trick that really puts Bond in his own league. The new Bond was very clever, very cocky, and to be fair a very good agent, and I know he was meant to be rookie, but there could have been more glimpses that Bond really was something special, rather than just VERY good.

I really enjoyed it. Craig brought a certain drive to the series that it was lacking in the last instalment (Die Another Day had some good points, but it was average/crap overall), and while some have argued that he didn't have any "Bond" moments, I think the beginning with the informant was fairly Bond. "They say the second kill is..." BANG! "I know". I thought was classic Bond.

And while I agree it lacked some mindless action sections, the action scenes in the film were fantastic. The chase in the Madagasgan building site? Blew me away. The fight in the sinking Venician building? Very Bond, very cool.

Overall, it was a great Bond film IMO, and a great Bond playing the role.

I am not happy with the Brosnan bashing thats flying about. He was a great Bond. Goldeneye was one of the greats, and on some days I argue that it was better than Goldfinger. But hush my mouth.

I've just saw it and it was totally awesome. Definitely the best Bond movie in ages!

I dig the new gritty and brutal tone of the movie, and the fact that there are not so many (if any) gadgets was great. It had become too much in the past two-three movies.

As far as I'm concerned Daniel Craig has done the best job playing Bond so far. I like that he's more of a violent brute instead of the stereotypical British gentleman, and I really fealt he was a real person instead of the perfect MI6 agent that couldn't really get hurt or had a chance dying.
The stunts were simply brilliant by the way.

I can't wait to see the next one in the series.

Yeah, the parkour was sick and pretty much made the movie. I've seen free running before (in some documentary... a quick Googling says it was Jump London), but this stuff was taking it to a whole new level.

I was quite surprised by the new direction the new Bond has taken the character, but I don't think its a bad one. I'll need to see more Craig movies to judge him. He definitely doesn't fit the old Bond bill, but he definitely gives Bond a fresh update. I liked it, and I was surprised that I did.

"Everyone will know you died scratching my balls!"

edit: Ah, that guy was Sebastien Foucan after all (one of the main dudes in the documentary). It all fits together now.

Saw it today gee-golly-gee, it was fucking BRILLIANT. One of the best Bond movies made to date, imho, along with The Man with the Golden Gun and A View to a Kill.

I think Craig faced a lot of unfair criticism and took a lot of unwarranted flak before the release of this movie, and I'm glad he's done gone showed the critics just what fantastic stuff he's made of through an absolute stellar performance.

He's been by far the most HUMAN Bond that I've ever seen. Brosnan was entertainment, but an impeccably smooth dandy I couldn't ever really empathise with, y'know? And you can just sorta tell they're trying to cut the norms with this Bond film. I mean...

"Shaken or stirred?" "Do I look like I give a damn?" xD Fucking brilliant. And the balls-scratching bit. Not to mention the fact that Vesper -- y'know, how she goes on about James' walls and stuff. I think the fact that we can actually see so much of Bond's vulnerability in this film is just great. :D He's a COMMON hero! He's one of US! Not some unreachable secret agent in a high-tech world inaccessible to us~ And the fight scenes were just breathtakin'. Damn, I mean, the beginning bit where that guy with burns on his face is leaping...that fuck's DANCING. Not jumping across buildings xD That was amazing, as was the Venetian buildin crumbling down like sand.

I have seen it. Best damn 007 movie I've seen in a LONG time. Certainly much better than any of the Brosnan films (blech!). Though, I don't think anybody could possibly beat Sean Connery when it comes to the role of James Bond. But I have to admit, as much as I was skeptical when I heard that Daniel Craig was blonde, I think he did a pretty good job.

The Fat Bioware Nerd

I think what was interesting about Daniel Craig's performance as James Bond is it was kind of like a cross between Sean Connery's performance and Timothy Dalton's performance.

Because when the bartender asked James if he wanted his martini shaken or stirred 007 glared at him and said "Do I look like I give a damn!?" But when Bond was being tortured by that guy who weeps blood 007 said "I have an itch...to the right...to the left...(laughs) you just scratched my balls!" "You're a funny man Mr. Bond."

The movie grabbed me from start to finish, and I was left wanting more. Who needs high-octane action sequences when you have great storytelling and phenomenal acting? Well, the odd action sequence won't go amiss, but you know what I'm trying to say.

9.5 out of 10, in my ever-so-humble opinion, gentlemen.
