Before everything else, this is NOT meant to be a flame thread.

So to ask. What's the worth in defeating Penance?

You acquire a Ribbon accessory. But by the time Penance is gone, you've probably defeated all the powerful bosses (excluding Braska's Final Aeon) in the game e.g. Dark Aeons and Omega Weapon hence there will no longer be any adversary to use the Ribbon with.

You also acquire a couple of Dark Matter. But by that time, you've acquired all the Celestial Weapons thus you'll no longer need them for customization.

Master Spheres will also be acquired. But by the time you've kicked Penance's ass, all the characters have completed the Sphere Grid rendering the Master Spheres useless.

Ultimately, there will be no extra ending for defeating Penance, not even an extra scene. after the battle, it will just shift back to the Airship, the characters acting like you never went thru a hellish battle with the boss with 12 million HP, the highest boss's HP in the history of Final Fantasy.

So to ask again, what's the worth in defeating Penance?

just to prove you can! :D seriously,. ur rite there no real substancial reason for defeating penance other than the awesome feeling that ensues. i never save it after veating penance anyway so that i can go and kick his ass agen :D

PS, braska's final aeon is not a powerful enemy!!!

Yeah, you aren't really rewarded with anything amazingly useful, but it's just a nice feeling to know you've beaten Penance. :)

The feeling you get when you beat him is reward enough ^_^

Just the satisfaction really.

I suppose you all have good points.

And it practically goes the same with Ruby and Emerald from FFVII, Omega Weapon from FFVIII and Ozma from FFIX.

Btw I haven't beaten (or even seen) Ozma yet.

Bragging rights, plain and simple. I dont have the version of X with Penance, nor would i even have the dedication to get strong enough to beat him.

And ozma looks like a gigantic marble, no joke, do an image search. Thats what makes it so amazing, that a giant marble is the strongest creature in the game. Well...it IS pretty much a collective of deceased summons, or something like that.

I found the final monster in the arena the hardest.

Big shiny exploding pyrotechnics are quite a reward methinks. And pre-mentioned bragging rights of course.

So who is tougher? Penance or Nemesis?

I'm asking because I haven't fought both yet. But I'm planning to! :mog:

i would say penance. nemesis has some decent attacks under his belt but i think penance still tops it. that extra 2mil hp makes the difference

Penance definately takes much longer than Nemesis to kill, but really once you get into a rhythm with him provided you don't lose it you can get through.

Harder than Penance? 0_o

Nemisis is considerably weaker than Penance. I can defeat Nemisis with one character, I can't defeat Penance with three.

Penance is worth beating if you enjoy the satisfaction of beating the hardest boss in the entire Final Fantasy series (Excluding bosses from FFXI).

there is the pride but i dont want the pride because it involves wasting hours and hours of my time just leveling up to beat some unimportant boss. unlike most superbosses where a good strategy would beat it, you need a good strategy and ridiculously high stats.

To be fair any time spent playing games is time wasted.

he's right! anything that comes to an end is futile.....plus its not like games actually DO anything important for you in life other than stress relief, boredom relief and popularity....unless of course your some kind of beta tester or something but thats a SPECIAL case...

Maybe not any reason to beat it.
But I want to beat, and I will soon!
Then I can say; "I bet the Penance!"

My level is too low too. It's high enough for most of the dark aeons, but to beat Penance - not at all!
