View Full Version : Can You Cook?

So, can you guys cook? Who taught you? Maybe you taught yourselves?
I love to cook, I can make almost anything (Indian, Italian, Mexican, Chinese, English, baking goodies...the list goes on). Experimenting is what makes it more fun.
My parents had been teaching me since I was 11. I've pretty much mastered most dishes. I guess it's cuz my father is a qualified chef, and Mum's being Mum's. I learned Chinese and Mexican myself though.
The one thing I found tricky the other day, is to make natural mashed potatoes to put over 'Shephard's Pie'. To me it was tricky cuz my mixture was so gooey. I think I overdid it with the butter. XD

I can make some foods way better then others. Like, for example, I am REALLY great at baking chocolate cakes because thats all I do! I looooove my chocolate cakes with a passion and I have become pretty skilled at making them now :)
And I am better at making vegetarian dishes then anything with meat. I can make vegetable pies and anything to do with vegetables but I can't with meat :(
You see, I am not a vegetarian at all, but I can't cook meat stuff because I get queasy at the sight of raw animal flesh, like chickens and stuff :( So I leave that to others.
Oh, and I can make toast too, all by myself http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p228/666DevilMan/Emoticons%202/Celebrate.gif

Sadly sometimes everything I can manage to do when I get home is putting a pizza in the micro wawe - damn stupid homework!

Raamen. It's the only thing I can make without stuffing it up. I can cook toast, but my parents would keep me from using the toaster if they could... an incident with a fork.... :(

I can cook, not like I have a choice anymore though. Often times I am too lazy after classes to actually prepare anything beyond a sandwhich.

I do my own version of um... "cooking". :p
I can get by in a kitchen. I'm not a master, but I can make various different styles of food, so it's all good.

I can cook, (although I can't cook meat, but then again I don't eat it,) I can also bake. I'm better at baking in my opinion. My nan taught me a lot and the rest I just picked up as I went along.

My boyfriend still ate it though and kept saying, "it's not THAT bad." Whatta great guy.

Yes.
In my earlier years, my parents owned and both worked in a restaurant. Since the only person available to look after me was my grandmother, who was also a very busy woman, I ended up spending much of my time in the restaurant and—as hazardous as it was—its kitchen. I didn’t exactly learn how to cook, but I did develop interest in the trade, respect for chefs, and inspiration to try out cooking whenever I had the chance. I would probably be working at that restaurant now, but my father sold the place (he did not like being a “Yuppie”) and moved into a different business.
After moving, I gradually lost all interest in cooking. I pretty much went for several years without even thinking about cooking. It wasn’t until I was 11 years old (when I had to choose shop class or home ec.) that my interest in cooking was renewed. I had the boost of past experiences to keep me near the top of the class; however, I was never able to get the passion I should have had for cooking—perhaps due to the fact I was easily influenced by my father.
That same class ran into high school, where it eventually evolved into Food Technology. It was a class that I could both enjoy and feel good about doing well in. The fact that the teacher was less of a teacher and more like a mother made me much more comfortable about the class and cooking.
Despite all this, I have never seriously considered cooking anything more than a hobby. I don’t know why.

Of course I know how to throw down in the kitchen (and someplace else that I shouldn't mention) my mother was a great cook and she taught me all I know. My specialties are macoroni & cheese, sweet potatoes, lasagna, and pizza I don't do much baking though.
Unlike everyone else in my family, I am a fantastic cook. I usually just throw stuff together and make awesomely tasting things.

I'll know what tastes good and what tastes bad when products are combined by my own hand, but I wouldn't serve those products to other people.

I can cook okay. :p I could cook cheese sauce for Macaroni Cheese by the age of about 8 so I can't be too bad. :p As a vegetarian, I don't TRUST myself with meat. I'd probably not cook it right and kill someone. :-/ Everything I've tried cooking I've cooked well though. ^^ Someone once said my food was heavenly. O.o'
I don't have much experience, but I have cooked dinner once or twice. I make meatballs a lot, but I'm the dessert queen in my house. Triple-layer chocolate cake with homemade icing... Problem is, when I make dessert it always ends up smaller when my mom makes it. Nobody knows why...hopefully...:rolleyes2

If it's store bought and has instructions on it, then hell yeah, hot pockets and frozen pizzas all the way. But other than that kinda stuff, not really.
