May-ko

Mah-ko

what do you normally say?

I really don't pronounce it, but if you held a gun to my head I would pronounce it Mah-ko.

It is a Japanese game, so I automatically assumed it was Mah-ko.

Yes, it's Mah-ko. It's even said aloud in DoC, isn't it?

魔光

"Ma" meaning magic, "kou" meaning light. Ma-ko.

mah-ko.

i'd imagine most americans would say may-ko and also some japanese would because they seem to make long sounds in words instead of short sounds.

E.G

i used to always pronounce yuffie, yuff-e instead of you-fie.

same with tifa.

Mah-ko because I cant read it may-ko only if I read it in English

I was thinking of the Japanese pronounciation.

So I pronounced it Mah-ko.

Amen, brother. Except I kinda stick with the whole "May-ko", "Yuff-ee" and "Tee-fah" thing. It was my original pronounciation and I've grown to accept it regardless of which way it's actually pronounced.

Also, I'd like to point out, it's actually more of an opinion topic, not a "who is right" topic. If it's not opinion-based, someone would tell us the actual pronounciation instead of opening up this debate.

Okay, I guess that last paragraph was meaningless, but I just wanted to type, in case.

I started pronouncing it May-ko before I learned how to pronounce Japanese words, hell, before I knew it was a Japanese word. So the pronounciation stuck.

May ko

Out of curiosity,

What is Sephiroth's name (or pronunciation) in the Japanese version of FFVII?

Not until I looked up the kanji (first noticed in the "reminescince" part of AC) did I realize it was Mahko. Then later I re-played the game and noticed the kanji in an ad in the item shop in Shinra HQ (which also had the romaji as "Makou"). I like Mayko better, though, just as I like You-fee and Tih-fuh.

It may be wrong. But I always said "Mar-Ko"

because when I was younger I saw an episode of something and there was a character called "Mako" and that's how they pronounced it.

When I had the game when it came out I wasn't really into the whole Japan thing, so yeah I say May-ko, Yuff-y, and since I've been saying that for a good 9 years I do believe that I'll keep saying it that way. :(

May-ko.

There pronunciaton differences between X and X2 as well, so I don't even think the designers know for sure some of the time.

In any case, Ma-ko, You-fee, and Tee-fa.

I pronounce it Mako. :p

One could say it either way. The first way, May-ko, would be the English way to say it and the second, Mah-ko, would be Japanese.

They're both right, fools. :cheese:
