We all have certain albums or artists we put on to wind down after a long day, when we're trying to go to sleep, or just zoning out for a while. For me, currently, it's the Lost In Translation soundtrack as well as anything by Amos Lee and Norah Jones.

So what's yours? This ISN'T per se your favorite artist or album, but moreso music that helps you relax.

Take care all.

DJ Shadow, Explosions in the Sky, Project Divinity, Nike Drake and a select few MCM songs. :monster:

I would say Explosions in the Sky but their songs have a tendency to suddenly explode into sound, which tends to not help me relax XD

I'd say: Lemon Jelly, Massive Attack and Seven Swans by Sufjan Stevens.

The "Come Away With Me" album by Norah Jones tends to help we relax quite a bit... Music by Katie Melua has the same effect one me.

I think listening to music in general helps me relax, but obviously more upbeat stuff doesn't work as well. I'd say Final Fantasy IV Celtic Moon, Norah Jones, Sting, and Mark Knopfler are all good listens for a mellow mood. Some Snow Patrol and Vertical Horizon songs are good, too, but they also have some faster stuff.

Broken Social Scene - Feel Good Lost.

The whole album is just so mellow.

Joe Hisaishi, select songs from Nubuo (Potion I and II come to mind as do select songs from the numerous Piano Collections and the Celtic Moon album), Michael Hedges, select songs from the many Myst soundtracks, the Morrowind OST, Chrono Symphonic, some Zelda Orchestral variations of the Zelda:OoT and MM, Ravi Shankar, Chanticleer, and a rough Guide to Sufi Music.

Death Cab For Cutie, definitely, and The Postal Service. Explosions in the Sky too. And I guess some of the more mellow Brand New. :)

For me, currently, it's the Lost In Translation soundtrack

Yes, definitely. That soundtrack is brilliance. Anyways, onto mine:

Air (Moon Safari)
A Silver Mount Zion
The Album Leaf
EF
Explosions In The Sky
Godspeed You! Black Emperor
God Is An Astronaut
Kaada & Patton (Romances)
Lost In Translation OST
Mogwai
Mr. Bungle (California)
Mum (Finally We Are No One)
My Bloody Valentine
Radiohead (Ok Computer)
The Royal Tenenbaums OST
Saxon Shore (The Exquisite Death of Saxon Shore
Sigur Ros
FF Soundtracks (IX and X specifically)

Lots of post-rock, which is pretty much the ultimate genre of chill-music :monster:

For some odd reason the Vince Guaraldi Trio's Charlie Brown Christmas album relaxes me like it's no ones business.

Avril Lavigne music really relaxs me and even when I'm ready for bed I fall right to sleep lol. (I'm a hardcoare Avril fan) So yeah, I listen to her daily because I can relate to her stuff.

I find that The Gathering (not before Anneke joined in) is very soothing.

I use Mozarts Symphony 31 in D Major to get rid of anger when I'm pissed off. Surprisingly enough it actually works.

Although, I seldom use music for relaxation. It's too active an activity for me, I guess.

Sufjan Stevens always works for me.

Air and Boards of Canada have the ambience/soft electronica category down for my relaxing time.

As for vocal music, nothing can beat Iron & Wine or Cat Power. It's amazing to hear so much emotion into such "soft" voices with minimal instrument backing.

Anything acid jazz, like Massive Attack or Portishead. Tim Larkin's Uru soundtrack is also very nice to wind down to. Mmm, Jeff Buckley's also something I like to cool down with too, especially his Live at Sin-e album (the double CD one).

Another few good ones are usually from films. Soundtracks to the Last of the Mohicans, and Unbreakable are extremely good.

All I can think of is a Final Fantasy playlist I made for relaxation. Some of the tracks are:

- Holding my Thoughts in my Heart (FFVII)
- Aeris' Theme (FFVII)
- Anxious Heart (FFVII)
- Flowers Blooming in the Church (FFVII)
- Chasing the Black-caped Man (FFVII)
- Ahead on our Way (FFVII)
- Descendent of Shinobi (FFVII)
- Interrupted by Firework (FFVII)
- Who am I? (FFVII)
- Off the Edge of Despair (FFVII)

- Breezy Fields (FFVIII)
- Waltz for the Moon (FFVIII)
- Tell Me (FFVII)
- Julia (FFVIII)
- Timber Owls (FFVIII)
- My Mind (FFVIII)
- The Mission (FFVIII)
- Martial Law (FFVIII)
- Unrest (FFVIII)
- The Stage is Set (FFVIII)
- Jailed (FFVIII)
- Rivals (FFVIII)
- Ami (FFVIII)
- The Spy (FFVIII)
- Movin' (FFVIII)
- Fisherman's Horizon (FFVIII)
- Fragments of Memories (FFVIII)
- The Oath (FFVIII)
- Trust Me (FFVIII)
- Dance with the Balamb Fish (FFVIII)
- The Castle (FFVIII)

- Feel my Blade (FFIX)
- Search for the Princess (FFIX)
- Steiner's Theme (FFIX)
- Eye-catching (FFIX)
- Crossing the Knoll (FFIX)
- Frontier Village ~ Dali (FFIX)
- Steiner's Stealth (FFIX)
- Zidane's Theme (FFIX)
- One Problem Settled (FFIX)

...Erm, okay, I started typing up the whole thing. I'll finish it off later with FFX and some other soundtracks, but this pretty much always sends me to sleep. I'd include older FF music but, well, you can tell it's synthesis far more than the more modern FF music of course, so it doesn't work as well.

Hey Joe and The Wind Cries Mary by Jimi Hendrix always seem to mellow me out.

I don't really ever relax. I have two settings, basically, sleep and gogogo! Maybe that's my problem.
