have been met! For about 4 or 5 years I have been hailing this game as the greatest FF game ever. I am here to say that these insane ramblings have officially become reality. Now that we have this masterpiece they should just can FFXIII and end the series on the highest note possible.

Music? Spot on.
Voice Acting? Have yet to hear better in a FF so far.
Graphics? Just beautiful with lots of detail.
Gameplay? Can't be touched.
Story? Feels like for the first time that much if it told through the gameplay in the likes of Metroid where your exploration across the world is a huge chunk of that story and is thus felt instead of told.

Since I hyped this game up to unreasonable levels for years on end, I just had to let everyone know. This game does not disappoint!

Good for you, ed.

I'll let you keep your own thread instead of merging it with the other review threads floating around. Because, yeah, you were probably the first on this forum to hype up this game like whoa. :p

I was hyping this game up years before the FFXII board existed :D

I just kind of avoided this place so I wouldn't get too many story spoilers and stuff like that.

Well of course it's the ultimate FF. It has 2 Cids. 1 Cid ensures for a powerful game, but when they crossed the line of multiple Cids they just created a beast of a game.

I'm glad you mentioned the similarity to Metroid's method for telling backstory, b/c I noticed the same thing. It's especially apparent as you kill more and more mobs which opens up various tidbits of information in the hunt list, very much like the information you gather in metroid by scanning surroundings. I wish there was a little more backstory/sideplots with the main characters, but it's such a small complaint compared with the delight with the other aspects of the story. I could play a game for 10,000 hours and still be disappointed that it's over and there's no more story.

What does it matter how big the world is if it is just a bunch of empty space?

FFX covered a lot of ground, and managed to tell a story along the way. Why should FFXII be held to a lesser standard?

I think you may have posted in the wrong thread. No one mentioned FFX or the size of the world in this thread so far...but now that you mention it FFX did suck a lot:love:

Sorry, I thought that was you mentioning the size of the world, assuming 'exploration' doesn't mean you just ran around Rabanastre for 70 hours.

What did you like about the story, though? What points really stuck out to you as memorable?

Best part of the game is by far...

"I'm Captain Basch!"
"I'm Basch Fon Ronsenberg!"

You had to TESTIFY...around town. That was so sweet!

This game has a charm. That charm could either make you love the story more or hate it more. I love the story.

I was never really pumped for this game. I actually wasn't going to buy it, but I impulse bought it when I just happened to be in Walmart on launch day. :P It's really awesome, though. Having no expectations and then being blown away is always great.

Good for you, ed. If Final Fantasy XII did not meet your colossal expectations, the board might not have survived. :p

That's good for you, Ed. :) I was very hyped about FFX when it was getting released in Europe, and I even bought a PS2 for it and then the game, being almost sure it would be among the best FFs if not the best, and it turned out to be one of the worst. >_< Anyway, it's good to hear that your really high expectations of the game were met and you enjoyed the game.

Oh, and is it "only" 4-5 years that you've been saying how FFXII will be the best FF ever? I remember you starting to say that around the time when FFIX was released, and that was in late 2000 / early 2001. Finally, knowing how much you like FFVI, is it safe to say that 12 >>>> 2*6? :D

This is a quote from a review written by Alexandra DuPont for Star Wars: Episode I (for the DVD Journal):

"Those of you waiting in line for Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace are, in my opinion, setting yourselves up for a grave disappointment. Either that, or you're about to brainwash yourselves into the short-term, delusional embrace of a sub-par cinematic product -- which is even worse."

Kinda applies to FFXII as well, huh?

Take care all.

Wouldn't I have to have expectations that this would be the second coming or actually think the FF series is a great series for this to apply?
