hey, one way to be sure, is to try it out!

anything else is moot really...

Cecil's Cover ability prompts you to select one of the characters in battle. The selected character will be covered by Cecil throughout the battle, even if they aren't at critical health. When in Cover mode, you can make Cecil stop covering a character if you select the 'Off' command which appears in place of the Cover command when in Cover mode.

And, which spells specifically are you confused about?

sight -opens the Map
silence- Causes mute, which prevents the casting of magic
teleport- takes you out of the dungeon
protect- raises defense
reflect- reflects magic on the enemy (This includes white magic)
blink- makes you difficult to hit with physical attacks
esuna- cures status problems
meteo- does a hell of alot of damage :D
mini- inflicts mini status
piggy- inflicts pig status
bio- does poison damage

That's the ones I remember, though feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Libra

Scans the target's HP, weaknesses, etc.

Sight

Displays a minimap! It isn't that useful though, unless you get lost somehow.

Silence

Prevents the target from casting spells with the Mute status.

Berserk

Sends the target into an uncontrollable rage. The target can only attack uncontrollably in the Berserk status.

Teleport

Teleports the party out of dungeons and other areas. A nice alternative to walking out of a dungeon. :P

Protect

Sets up a protective barrier on a target. Increases physical attack resistance.

Haste

Speeds up time for one target. With the Haste status, you recieve more turns faster than normal.

Shell

The magical version of Protect. With the Shell status, resistance to magical attacks is increased.

Reflect

Sets up a reflective magic barrier. All spells cast at targets with the Reflect status are bounced back at thier casters.

Dispel

This spell rids a target of positive status effects (like Protect, Shell, Haste, and so on).

Blink

Bolsters a target's evasion. Combine it with Shell and Protect for maximum defense.

Esuna

Cures negative status effects like Poison, Confusion, and Paralysis.

Slow

The opposite of Haste. Targets inflicted with the Slow status recieve fewer turns at a slower rate.

Levitan

Summons the King of Summoned Beasts, Leviathan. Tsunami deals massive water-based damage to all foes.

Meteo

The ultimate Black Magic spell. A very powerful Holy-elemental attack. However, it takes about five years to actually cast it. I recommend Flare or Bahamut for your offensive magic needs.

Mini

Shrinks the target. Targets with the Mini status have vastly reduced stats. Cure this as soon as possible. Shrunken targets can still cast magic, however.

Piggy

Turns the target into a pig. Unlike Mini, you can't cast spells while in Pig form. And you don't really want to become a pig, do you?

Bio

Powerful Black Magic spell. Deals poison damage, and gradually drains the target's HP over time.

Yang's Endure ability acts like the Protect spell, it increases his own defense.

There you are! :) :cat:

Reflect

Sets up a reflective magic barrier. All spells cast at targets with the Reflect status are bounced back at thier casters.
I think it'd be more accurate to say that the spells cast on a target with Reflect on will be bounced back at the target's enemies. For example, if Tellah cast Bio on Cecil and he had the Reflect status, the spell would hit your enemies, not Tellah.

Exit/Teleport can also let you escape battles.

Reflect can't reflect meteo or reflected spells. For example, An enemy has Reflect status and the whole party has Reflect status. Enemy casts Flare on itself. Reflect Status bounces the magic at your party and goes through their Reflect status, damaging them.

Also in this game, bad statuses can be cured by casting the spell on the affected character. For example, if a character has Toad status, casting Toad on that character will cure the status. While under "Pig" or "Toad" status, the spell "Pig" and "Toad" are the only spells you can cast.

You're right, Rase. I was only thinking of if the enemy casts it. Thanks for correcting me. :) :cat:

Rase
12-03-2006, 10:21 PM
It's the cave in the North-Western corner of the Underground, if I remember correctly. It's one of those three caves down there.

Tifa's Real Lover(really
12-03-2006, 10:35 PM
i have no idea where that is, picture or directions?

Takara

Actually, the northwestern cave is the Sylvan cave where you can acquire the Sylph summon. It's also the place you will find Yang later in the game.

The cave that leads to the Land of the Summoned Monsters is on a small island in the Underground. You'll need an airship to cross the lava to reach it.

Well, here's (http://www.ffshrine.org/ff4/maps/underworld.gif) a picture. It's the cave called "Land of Monsters".

Where are you at in the game anyway?

Okay, well you have a while before you can get to the Land of the Phantom Beasts, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Coincidently, I'm right about where you are in my current game. :D

Now you've got to go to the Dark Elf's lair. Walk north of the town you're in, and you should find a forest with a Black Chocobo. Ride it to the cave where the Dark Elf is (it's on an island, I think). Make sure you remove all metal equipment before you enter.

Or you could just run from everyone....When I first played the cave, I figured that you couldn't kill the enemies...I mean Cecil with a bow?? He's not an elf or gay...And I would just keep running until I killed the Dark Elf then show those meanies the taste of steel...

Tellah uses staves/robes, Yang uses fists/karate gi, You can equip Cid with the Wooden Hammer, and Cecil can use bows. It's really not too hard to make it through the Magnetic Cave.

Jowy

Also, once you get the Fairy Claw for Yang, he can kill the ogres in one hit. It's an easy way to levelgrind if you can't beat Dark Elf.
