Sorry for the misleading thread title, but this is an issue that needs immediate attention.

I keep getting this pop-up window each time I log online.
<IMG src="http://pics.livejournal.com/judek_hanzo/pic/0000204q">

I've done a billion spyware checks and gotten rid of every spybot it found yet this keeps popping up. I'm afraid if I click OK I'm gonna be tricked into downloading something worse. Is there something I can do to get rid of this, please?

HijackThis(via TomCoyote's site, Spywareinfo, or others...) can make a log that can make it easier for those who know a little more about spyware to help you. However it is a powerful tool and should be used for log purposes only unless you know what youre doing.

Spybot Search and Destroy
Ewido Anti-Malware(renamed to something now as AVG bought them out)
AVG Antivirus
Adaware from Lavasoft

Those are a few free programs that may help.

However if you have a more newer/harder infection... like vundo, smitfraud, E2Give, Qoologic or some others, you may need the small custom written and frequently updated 3rd party removers from programmers that help out websites such as castlecops, spywareinfo, spywarewarrior...

Out of everything listed, I believe everything is "uh oh" safe, except Hijackthis, which if you start checking things and telling it to "Fix" or "remove" .. then you can get into fun if you remove the wrong things.

However Hijackthis will give a decent story of what's running currently, what's embedded into internet explorer BHOs, toolbars, what's automatically running when you turn the computer on... etc. To the non-savy, it will look like jargon a bit, but then you can take that log file if you save it and post it here possibly if the administrators don't mind using this forum... or go to a anti-spyware forum and post there.

Typically its a 3 day response on antispyware forums from your first post... then usually 1 day response once you get a helper/techy person.

I'm a little familiar with spyware, but no expert on the subject.

Run it, click on scan, save log and then you have a working log to post if ya so choose :)

If the higher powers here don't like long logs in the help forum tho... ya might need to go to an antispyware site instead...
Spywareinfo is good, as is castlecops.

*edit*
helps to turn images back on so I can see the pop up..
Currently researching that pop up...
In the past that is a sign of a typical infection, usually smitfraud. However I have not seen that particular one. Smitfraud used to masquerade(sp?) as windows update saying that the system was infected and it was downloading the best spyware remover/etc...

I did an updated Spybot S&D, it detected a bunch of stuff it didn't detect before and got rid of them but it's still happening.

Smitfraud-Fix Should get rid of it, a quick search on spywareinfo.com's forums shows every thread having the mods list smitfraud fix as the cure.

This is not to say that Smitfraud isn't the ONLY infection that is possibly in the computer. But from that pop up, a form of smitfraud is most likely present.

If that doesn't do it, I'd give Ewido Antimalware(or AVG Anti-Spyware i think its called now) a try, as its more powerful than spybot in my opinion. Spybot was one of the best years ago, but I fail to see it cleaning some of the meaner infections these days. But you may wish to turn off the background guard in Ewido, as it can get quite annoying with popups.

Not sure if this will fix it, just always was good at researching things :)
