So, I was just now, listening to my favorite band (yeah, you guessed it) Panic! at the Disco. :p The first time I listened to them, was I think around December 05' and I would hear the beginning of 'I write sins' their first single all the time before December on Yahoo! video. I didn't really like them at first, they sounded kinda wierd. One day, I could remember it like it was yesterday, my computer was going super slow, and my Yahoo! video window thinger wouldn't let me skip this one video, it was (yeah you guessed it again) 'I Write Sins' by Panic at the Disco! I was getting angry cause at the time I didn't like it, but it got to the part where he starts singing and I just said 'Hey, this isn't as bad as I thought..Hey! It's not bad at all!' And from then on, I LOVED them, as you can see now. I'm practically obsessed now. I eventually bought the CD, and whenever I saw anything with Panic! at the Disco, I wanted it. All thanks to my slow ass computer. :jess:

So, share your experiences listening to your favorite band for the first time.

Savage Garden was my favorite band for aaaaages and I still love them but they've been broken up for a long time now ._.~ I thought they were heavenly when I first heard them ;) I've cried over their songs before ;-; It was a long time ago.

The first time I heard my favourite band, Modest Mouse, was on vh1. It was Float On, I loved it. I would get all excited when the video came on. xD At the time I didn't really search them out, but now I have all four albums and I love them with a passion.

Good idea for a thread ff+.

I remember the first time i heard 2Pac (my favourite musician). It was a night in the summer of 2000, and my cousin persuaded me to listen to the song California Love. At the time i didn't think much of it, tapping my feet almost to please my cousin who i thought felt was besotted with.
On the way home from his house, something clicked in my head. It's like discovering a song you love for the first time, but so much more. Something like it never happened to me previously, and to be honest i don't think it's likely to happen again. As soon as i got home i rushed to the phone and dialed my cousin's phone number, & told him to place the phone up to the CD player. I listened to California Love through the phone the whole night, i almost new the whole rap when i hung up!

It was an experience i won't forget, because as strong feelings go, this was the strongest i felt towards music. I still listen to 2Pac frequently to this day.

Three and a half years ago at the behest of my then-girlfriend, I bought Radiohead's Amnesiac and listened to it almost exclusively.

Recently, I was introduced to Pain of Salvation's Remedy Lane and listened to that almost exclusively for about three weeks.

I'm not sure which of the two is my favorite band.

The Datsuns - I had heard a lot about them as they got big in Europe as it was on the news quite a bit in NZ. They only played a few snippets of their songs, though, which was enough to get me into a positive state of mind about the band. Then I saw them tear up Harmonic Generator on some :skull::skull::skull::skull: like CD:UK and the love just kept on growing into what it is today.

Puff Daddy had beat up Steve Stout (Nas's manager) because MTV aired a version of the Nas song Hate Me Now that showed P-Diddy On the Cross like Jesus. That was my first true taste of Nas.

My parents took me to a Pink Floyd concert in '92, and ever since I've been hooked. I liked them at the time cause I thought it was cool, but since then I've discovered that they're the most awesomeness band ever!

First time I listened to Slayer (my favorite band), was when I bought the Headbangers Ball CD volume 1, and it had a live version of Raining Blood. I liked the song so much that I saw them in concert a month later. I liked that show so much that the next day, I bought their Reign In Blood CD. And I've been a Slayer fan ever since.

I also agree, this is a very interesting topic.

The first time I ever heard Bruce Springsteen, fittingly, I was driving to New Jersey on my way to work at 6am. The song was "Racing In The Street" and as I drove, the music and words just washed over me and for an instant, I saw my life flash before me. Now if anyone knows that song, it's a very sad song, so I hope that this isn't some omen of a sad life, but the pathos of the song, the lyrics and how very real they felt to me, it haunted me frankly. I spent all day at work thinking about it and when I was released, stopped at a local Best Buy to pick up whatever Springsteen albums they had. Then, for the entire 2 hour ride home, I rapidly became a lifelong fan of The Boss.

For whatever reason, I'd always been aware of his music but had never really listened to it. Now, I wonder why I waited so long.

Take care all.

My grandma used to play Pink Floyd all the time. The first time I remember actually listening was when she was watching PULSE, and called me in to see Shine On You Crazy Diamond. :D

Good song.

I had experienced something similiar, but with the song 'One step up' from him. I was visiting my cousins for the night, and seeing as how they listen to Bruce all the time, i heard this song playing from the CD player that i just loved it, instantly. I went upto the bedroom with a CD walkman and the Tunnel of Love album and put the song on repeat for the night. There's something amazing about the song, it just sticks with you. I do believe that is Springsteen's best trait, he is a musician for the people (probably unlike Cash or Dylan in that way).

I still listen to Bruce alot today, and he is one of my favourite musicians.

Hmm, for my favourite band these days, Of Montreal, it was not really that long ago, maybe like a year or less and I think I just found them on lastfm then downloaded a song..then went wowww. Not very exciting story.

I have quite an old memory of when I first heard Blink 182 though, who were my favourite band throughout my end of school and college life (and still have a special place in my heart <3). Some guy brought the CD Enema of the State and played it in our Art lesson at school. I thought it was great and then went and got all the CDs!

Wow, that must have been pretty recent. It's nice to see that the influence that is Floyd is still spreading today! :D

Yes, it is. I had never really got into Floyd until about a year and a half ago. And they just blew my mind away. Pretty much dark side of the moon until the final cut is just awsome. To me atleast.

My current favorite band is The Allman Brothers. I can't tell you the first time I experienced their music because I've grown up listening to it. I can remember the song that turned my head to them and made me pay attention. A couple of years ago I was driving home from work with my daddy and Whipping Post was on the classic rock station. The lyrics and vocals are so raw and the music was just so desperate and heavy. It made an impression. So now I love them. Go me!

Mine's pretty dull, really. Borrowed a few Megadeth (http://www.last.fm/music/Megadeth/) albums (Rust in Peace (http://www.last.fm/music/Megadeth/Rust+in+Peace/), Youthanasia (http://www.last.fm/music/Megadeth/Youthanasia/) and Cryptic Writings (http://www.last.fm/music/Megadeth/Cryptic+Writings/) from a friend, and loved them. Not all that interesting, was it?

It took me longer to get into Tunnel Of Love and his other post E Street Band albums, save for Nebraska, but I can say that I now love them all and that song is indeed another one that can stick with you. I could write endlessly on why Bruce is so inspiring and a large part is the fact that his music connects to the everyman, that somehow, his songs seem to cut right to the heart of the human experience, the good AND the bad, and not the melodramatic bad, but the common, hard-working bad, when you're working so hard and just barely making ends meet. Few artists have ever found a way to make that struggle so epic and truthful. For my money, he'll always be the best at it.

Ah, the Allman Brothers. Live At Fillmore may well be the greatest live album of all time.

There are so many great artists out there.

Take care all.

I have two I'll mention.

My favorite band has to be The Pillows. I was first introduced to them through FLCL quite a few years ago (watched a fansub).

The scene in the second episode where Canti is exploring the old school house while Mimi follows him has this beautiful garage band song called "Hybrid Rainbow". It was the first time I ever listened to them and I instantly fell in love. That entire scene with the song is just haunting and beautiful.

My next favorite is a singer, now I like the Boss (I love "Streets of Philidelphia") but my favorite still has to be Billy Joel. Growing up in a house that only played old country, Billy Joel was my first introduction to Rock n' Roll. I was eight at the time and my mother bought his Greatest Hits collection so she could listen to "Uptown Girl".

I listened to that album almost everyday for two years. While other kids were talking about Guns n' Roses and before even Nirvana hit the airwaves, I was humming "Piano Man" or singing "Movin Out". He still is one of my favorite musicians even after all these years. I can still sing along to every song on his Greatest Hits album.

Can I still add here?

Hi.

It was about summer/fall of 2003, and I was sitting in my apartment alone with my laptop just kinda searching for bands.

I don't remember the specifics, but I'd read somewhere the lead singer of Norma Jean had quit and I was pretty bummed out about it. So during this search I came across a band called "The Chariot" which so happened to be the old lead singers new band. I listened to their 3 song demo on PureVolume I think it was, and fell in love. His voice is, well I can't describe it. With them it's a different ballgame from typical metalcore/hardcore whatever. Plus they've got SO much energy on stage it just makes me go crazy. Their albums Unsung and Everything is alive, everything is breathing (etc etc cause it's a long name) are amazing.

Oh, my other favorite band Sublime and I met about....well probably 10 years ago just randomly. I love Bradley Nowell's voice.

The first time I heard/saw The Rasmus 'In The Shadows' I thought they was okay; nothing special. I started listening to it more and more, and their album was the first album I ever bought. I loved every song on the album, and wha la. That was about.. hm 3 years ago?
