(Oh I sure did!)

What are your favourite bugs?
Or do you hate bugs?
Do you have any interesting facts on bugs?

My appreciation and admiration is for the common house fly. It's danger to mankind as well as its importance encourage a deep respect for this underappreciated little guy.

common name: house fly

scientific name: Musca domestica Linnaeus

life cycle: The house fly has a complete metamorphosis with distinct egg, larva or maggot, pupal and adult stages and can metamorph into it's adult stage within 2 weeks, 1 week if the weather is accomodating. The most interesting stage is the larva stage. Larvae nest in a moist an plentiful food source, hopefully rotting flesh. They're advanced body shape, with a pointed snout and rounded bottom allows the larvae to jut around cutting up the flesh with a hook mouth. What's really fascinating, however, is the waste secretion of the larvae which mainly contains ammonia. The ammonia breaks down the flesh into edible and managable food for the larvae.

presented danger: More than 32 disease and 100 pathogens are associated with the house fly, including typhoid, cholera, bacillary dysentery, tuberculosis, anthrax ophthalmia and infantile diarrhea, as well as parasitic worms. Making the house fly the most threatening household insect.

health benefits: Ironically enough the fly can also save lives and "maggot therapy" is a technique used by prominant doctors to clean unhealing wounds. This is done by introducing live maggots to the infected wound which then clean the flesh by eating decomposing flesh and infected tissue, killing bacteria and thus stimulating wound healing. This technique has been used since 1931.

Shouldn't it's scientific name be italicized or underlined?

If bugs leave me alone, I leave them alone.

I also have an irrational fear of cockroaches. They scare the hell out of me.

Bugs should die a horrible death for everyone swallowing them in our sleep. They have no use but to terrorise & annoy.

Aux contraire mon-petit ami.

Aside from the previously mentioned use of maggots... bugs are a viable food source for lots of animals and essential to a sustained ecosystem, many have been used for decoration and dyes, they break down and decompose waste materials and flesh returning nutrients back to the Earth to be recycled, many are used for medicinal purposes and some like the fluttering butterfly have become the muse of poetic gesture.

Bees do help with the growth of fruits.

Dung Beetles also help get rid of dung.

Some bugs also lay their eggs on dead animals and the larvae that hatch get rid of the dead animal.

I hate bugs because... society tells me they are icky and I don't like to think for myself. They're gross and they should die. We can then logically conclude that ugly things deserve to die.

Let the bugs live, it's the flies that need to die. :monster:

I slaughter cockroaches like it's my business. Because it is.
Currently, all the cockroaches of the world and I are at open war.

I also hate those demonic monsters that eat paper.
I slew an Earwig once and found to my shock and horror that it has no organs inside of it, nothing remotely like an organ or a mechanism to keep it alive. Only mush from the valuable paper that it devours. Surely, these monsters are magical manifestations of nonliving objects brought forth by some evil that plans to eradicate knowledge from the planet by simply erasing it. I am the Chosen One (Chosen by myself because obviously nobody else is stepping up to the plate) to put an end to this terror.

Yes. Please don't ask me to explain it. I just don't like them. Nor anything with more than eight legs. Ugh ugh ugh. :(

Me and other bugs are cool, though.

She said "On the contrary, my boyfriend."

Really, she said little friend, but the french use petit(e) ami(e)/copain/copine to refer to boy/girlfriends. xD

Ants don't bother me unless they're in the house. Then I'll freak out and spray raid everywhere. Centipedes though make me shriek and squeal like a little girl.

I enjoy my colony of hissing cockroaches, but what I'd really like is some emerald and African millipedes.

i hate insects and bugs and such...they i don't go outside and bother them under their rocks or whatever, so as long as they don't bother me in my place of residence, we will have no problem...

as i always say, bugs look like aliens and they're tiny...which means sneaky...just can't be trusted

I accept that bugs have a job to perform in our world. Nonetheless, they best watch out because I have a job to perform as well...squashing them. :D?

I don't mind bugs and whatnot, as long as they stay many miles away from me. I'm terrified of bees and wasps so I get scared by anything that buzzes around cos I mistake them for bees and wasps. They sting and thats something I've vowed never to experiance.

A TERRIBLE BEAUTY
http://www.jenniferangus.com/homepage/w_words.gif

I was just thinking of this artist, Jennifer Angus. She used over a million bugs in her installation "A Terrible Beauty." In this exhibition she explored the correlation between the mentality of collecting, colonialization and Imperialism, use of pattern & decoration, the heirarchy of catagorization and ideological values from the Victorian period.

Generally when we think of bugs we think of ugly, squirmy, black and brown, grotesque little beings. But I think Jennifer Angus shows how gorgeous the bug world can be. The little creatures she uses are naturally colourful and have undergone 0 modification.

I think they're absolutely stunning:

I like bugs, except for cicadas. They scare me so much. But most bugs are so cute and I don't kill them because that's mean.

I love the Bolivian Caterpillar (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OeNggIGSKH8). It's adorable and furry, but very poisonous if you touch the fur.

I was in a shop and they were giving samples away not long ago, and one of the samples was queen ants covered in chocolate. They were really yummy!

I like dragonflies and butterflies.

I have had enough from bugs and insects to last me a life time. :(
Three times I was beated by a bee. I had a spider climbing my hand when I was 10. My room is always full of house flies even though I don't open the windows. Finally, few days ago I was beaten in my chin with a mysterious insect and it swallowed. =_=
It is impossible to be friendly with them, never.

I'm scared of most bugs. I know that it's an irrational fear but it is just something I can't get over. I'm mostly scared of spiders, I can't even be in the same room as one. They terrify me. :(

I hate, hate, hate earwigs. They're creepy. Flies don't bother me as long as they're outside, even though maggots are the most disgusting thing ever. I don't mind other bugs like beetles, butterflies, even ants(again, as long as there outside) I like. :)

I'm only really scared of spiders and moths. Moths especially. They're fuzzy and they flap around and scare me.

But I can never bring myself to kill bugs, no matter what kind, so I trap them in a cup and let them loose outside. XD
