It is MGS for the playstation but updated for the gamecube. It isn't terrible but boss fights and things were not changed which makes the game crazy easy.

It's a good game. It's basically MGS 1 with MGS 2 play mechanics.

Silicon Knights decided the original cutscenes needed moar bullet time so there's liberal spritzes of it throughout.

It's prettier, but really the same game.

I rented it and gave it a go one time and never paid attention to it again. It was just the same game with some glitter. Nothing really special to see . Oh well, it was an excuse to play it all over again for the whateverth time.

Better to play the PS1 version the way it was meant to be played.

No way. If you're going to play a version of MGS, the Twin Snakes version is definitely the way to go.

The new cut-scenes are horrible, but other than that it's an excellent game. It's not really worth getting if you've played MGS1 before, but if you've never experienced the original then the remake's probably the best way to experience it.

Silicon Knights decided the original cutscenes needed moar bullet time so there's liberal spritzes of it throughout. The blame for the terrible new cut scenes belongs with Ryuhei Kitamura, a Japanese director who is known for injecting his films with all manner of insane, off-the-wall actiontime. Unfortunate, his style clashes terribly with that of MGS.

As for the graphics themselves, I think they're actually worse than those of the original version, which employs such clever texturing that the remake looks sterile in comparison. It also doesn't help that the characters all look like plastic dolls. The only real plus is that they no longer have to bob their heads around in order to imply speech.

New points: Various lines within the script were altered for the worse and for no real reason, and the soundtrack went from a haunting cinematic score to a lot of droning electronic dreck. Boo.
