Whats the deal with Penance?

Okay i havnt beaten penance or unlocked him but i still want to know...

Why?
Why is penance even there? whats his story? is there a story in-game?

It's generally agreed upon that Penance represents the penance that the party must pay for betraying Yevon.

Other than that, it's a Deus Ex manifestation of the most difficult or highest hit-pointed boss.

But if you ask me, I think it's because Japan is fed up with the United States and screwed us over.

personally, i think its just a test put in there by the developers to see who has the patience to train up enough to kick its ass, and the skill to boot. there can be heaps of opinions, but only the developers could give a definative ans.

I had a theory that Penance is the manifestation of the spirits of all of the Dark Aeons that you defeat on the way to him. Note that despite Penance obviously being Machina in apperance he is very much a living creature since he releases pyreflies upon being killed.

Penance is there becuase he is Yu Yevon's counterpart holding the thread of Spira in one piece. Originally though to be the Omega MK.II, it was what had brought Sin to life and Sin had destroyed the Spira for releasing such a demon. Though the idea may sound wierd, don't think of me as an idiot. I spent alot of researching this very idea and put all the info together.

Even though i dont have the international version. I think that Pennace is supossed to be the Final Aeon. Seeing how much harder it is from any other boss and the fact that u have to fight dark aeons in order to unlock him.

Braska's Final Aeon is the current Final Aeon. As explained in the game, the Final Aeon is possessed by Yu Yevon. Thus the need to journe6y and pilgrimage every single time.

I figured he was just the unexplained super tough boss that appears in most of the games. Kinda like Ozma or whatever from FF9.

Okay. Penance is this big guy. He's hard. He's their punishment for going against Yevon. He has the second most h.p. of any boss in FF. I think Yiazmat has the highest.

I'm having a hard time beating Penance, eventhough most of my attributes are around 250 and their HP's around 40,000...

although if ur looking for protips, ALL ur stats should be at 255 (max) including luck. high hp is not necessarily important provided you know what you're doing
