View Full Version : Staying up all night right before New Year's Eve = dumb?

Yeah, so it's full action at home right now: me and my little brother play multiplayer in Perfect Dark forever (with very high Surround sound, of course), the parents are visiting some acquaintances, and we simply haven't even considered going to bed.
I don't feel tired AT ALL (seriously, not even taking a nap in my bed is that tempting; I've tried) and going to bed would just feel weird right now.

The problem is, tomorrow it's New Year's Eve, and I dunno if I will stand two all-nighters in a row; so, how would you do in my situation? :)

I would probably go play video games or have sex (the usual), but then again, I am used to staying awake for 36 hours in a row, so perhaps what I say is moot.

If you aren't tired, do something. Once you get tired, take a nap. Simple as that.

Counting in the New Year is boring. At least if I am tired enough I will be able to sleep through it all, and somebody else will do it for me.

Staying awake for 24 hours is all right.
36 hours is where it begins to get difficult.
48 hours, depends on how much adrenaline's in your bloodstream.
60 hours... put down the coffee...
72 hours you're beyond coffee. And all kinds of psychiatric help.

I usually have trouble staying up all night, so I usually go straight to bed a bit after 12, but it's still fun. xD My family eats lots of yummy snacks, like mozerrella sticks and garlic bread, and we watch a lot of movies.

Probably just a rumour. :)I guess so, but he seemed very serious: he started going on about what an LSD-experience he had, and that everything went woozy.
No really? :D

You could stay up all tonight, an then sleep during the day tommorow if you think you can't handle two late nights in a row without a considerable amount of sleep.

Ya.

NYE doesn't even start until 10pm anyway, so you would have a lot of time to rest up from tonight.

I just lay there being all insomniac and stuff and read (in very faint light, I don't suggest it since it can ruin your eyes ^_^) or listen to my iPod. Eventually you'll get tired, I guess.

How is it stupid to stay up and have fun when you can sleep in the next day?

There's nothing wrong with staying up all night as long as you catch up on sleep the next day. I stay up all night all the time, but that's 'cause I sleep during the morning and then again in the evening. Anyway, you might as well stay up today and tomorrow and then catch up on sleep later as I doubt you have work or school on New Year's Day.

Well, considering that drug filled nights end in two or three days of afterglow insomnia, I'd do drugs in your situation.

I always stay up on New Year's Eve to make sure it comes home on time. I swear, it is worse than a sixteen year-old daughter wanting to sneak out with that hotrod Joey.

It'll be fun. Sleepless people are funny anyway.

Unfortunately, I don't believe I'll be awake for midnight of the new year. I'm marching in the Rose Parade that day and have an uber-long rehearsal the day before, so I'll be pretty dead. No sleep before 7 mile parade = sad panda.

You mean you people actually go to bed before midnight? That's rather strange, around 6AM is my bedtime. Maybe you could take lots of naps to make up for it?

I only have all-nighters when I actually physically can't sleep. Wanting to stay up all night is not something that has ever entired my mind in years, because I have been forced to by insomnia, and it's unpleasent. Besides, a good night's sleep and timely sleep patterns are very healthy and condusive to a good schedule.
