Simply enough, what do you call her? I call her Dagger.

I call her Garnet. Dagger sounds dumb to me. Besides, it makes the story funny. It's a disguise worthy of Superman!

i named her dagger. it sounds better

I usually just leave her Dagger from a mixture of wanting to keep the default names and being too lazy to change it. Dagger never sounded very odd to me. If I can accept names like "Kid" in Chrono Cross then Dagger is no sweat.

Garnet = beautiful name
Dagger = extremely stupid name

Enough said.

I called her Dagger. When talking about her I refer to her as Dagger as well, though occasionally I do call her Garnet.

Dagger because it would've been odd if the scene went like this...

Garnet "Hey Zidane whats this?"
Zidane "That's a dagger, the shortest weapon class, from there there's shortswords, swords, broadswords..."
Garnet "Ok I get it"
Steiner "Your highness thats a weapon please put it away."
Garnet "I know from now on I'll be....

Julia!"

I mean seriously, her name would've had nothing to do with the discussion they had.

Dagger has a nicer ring to it. A ring about a thousand times nicer than Garnet.

Also, a Garnet is a beautiful stone, whereas a Dagger is a sharp, pointy thing; the latter somewhat represents the ruggedness she's forced to develop.

i prefer her official name, even though it could expose her identity in the game (well, it's not that big a deal :shifty:), had she not taken onto Dagger. Dagger just seemed a little masculine.

I left it as is, Dagger.

Although sometimes for my main character girls, I name them whoever I have a crush on at the time (Unless the main character girl is the main characters sister)

I never change her name from Dagger but when referring to her, I call her Garnet. I just don't like the name Dagger.

When you are asked to name her i named her Garnet because Dagger is a really stupid name

So she's trying to stay unknown and you had her keep her actual name?and the scene had her saying:{after examining the dagger}from now on I'll be...Garnet.

Laddy

I named her Garnet, it's a stupid name, but I find the default names to be much more suitable.

Hehe. I renamed her Boots on my second time through. It made for some pretty interesting conversation.

Named her Rydia from FF4. Never used her much, always prefered Eiko (Rosa) because she learns Curaga way earlier than Dagger.

Sarah or Garnet. I think Dagger is a pretty dumb name, even if it is just a "disguise".

BustaMo

Wow, good question. I always refer to her as Garnet when discussing FFIX. Then when playing the game, if it's after she renames herself, i refer to her as Dagger.

I prefer Garnet. Seems more royal-ish.

Hay I wear glasses and comb my hair! Not Superman!

I'm not really sure. After seeing weird name choices from a thread, I started calling her 'Panties'. Yah. I'm sure I got it from there. I remember that person stating how weird Zidane's conversations would be, when he'd be shouting 'PANTIES' around. Hehe.

Now, I don't know what to think. OH yeah. I remember me and my brother naming Steiner : Einhorn and Amarant: Boobies. Hah! He called himself Flaming Boobies. Oh Sorry. Bluntly to put it, Garnet. Oh wait. Dagger. Nope, definitely Garnet.

I named her Dagger (it's just a pseudonym anyway) but I often refer to her as Garnet.

Garnet is not her real name though. that's just her given name as Princess of Alexandria.

But if you do something at the Eidolon Shrine in Madain Sari (I forgot the process), Garnet's birth name will be revealed which turns out to be Sarah. Pretty lame IMO. :eep:

Dagger's stupid and masculine I just call her Garnet and in that scene she was aksed if she liked that name, I said no and changed it to Aaliyah and then Malaya Malaya would make more sense because Malaya is just another word for Garnet.

Malaya is just another word for Garnet.

What a coinkydink! :D "Malaya" also means "free" or "liberated" in Tagalog (native language of the Philippines). It just so happened that Garnet is a princess locked away in a castle. She wanted freedom too.

I named her after different shades of red. In my last playthrough, I called her Alizarin. (:

My first playthrough she was "Abstract," but I think I had to shorten it to "Abstra"

I just started my 2nd playthrough. I typically like to rename all my characters, but I decided just to leave them as the defaults this time. Except for her. I can't name her Dagger, it's just too stupid. I named her Shiv.

Bunny

I kept her name as Dagger because I am unoriginal and fairly lame. I do not change the names of my characters ever.

Ggrrrr.

I name her different every time I play (just like every other Final Fantasy) the first time I named everyone retarded names cuz I didn't plan on playing through the game so the names I chose were:
Zidane: Jerkwad
Vivi- Oddball
Steiner: Rusty (^^)
Garnet- BigMama
Freya- DorkGuy
Quina- LickMan
Eiko- Demon 6
Amarant- Cookie
(Ok ok, they're really retarded, but I was like nine and it was funny at the end"bring my beloved BigMama to me)
But when I seriously play through the game, these are the names I pick
Zidane: Zi
Vivi: Syther
Steiner: Krakel
Garnet: Lia/Lenna/Belle
Freya: Narshe
Quina: Skye
Eiko: Deshra
Amarant: Prulix

And yes, I am aware that this entire post had nothing to do with the topic. Sue me. I wouldn't name her Dagger, cuz it's way too masculine for her character and Garnet sounds too much like Garland for me. Whenever I refer to her outside of the game, I call her Garnet.

I always called her Dagger since that's what I named her. I usually don't change the "default" names when naming characters.
