the best idea would have been to actually move around or something.

If you're in of the starting towns, you probably won't see much people there. They're mostly in Jeuno or Aht Urghan.

/sea all

Don't know what you're on about, when I do /sea all I usually come up with a number of 3,000+ people currently playing on the server.

No idea. At any given time on Valefor theres thousands playing. Sometimes I cant even walk through Jeuno or Whitegate without it lagging a bit because theres hundreds of people on the screen at one time. You sure you were playing FFXI?

"Hey guys, I logged in after two months. I happened to be standing in the middle of Beaucedine and I couldn't see a single other player. Apparently this game died and sux. I'm gonna go play WoW, kthxbai."

[/sarcasm]

You could, you know, use the /sea all function to decide whether there are people still in the game intead of basing it off of your 20 seconds of seeing 3 people in whatever remote area you were apparently in.

The game is still thriving with more than enough people playing.

I keep hearing this kind of thing. I had a rdm tell me that the game was dead while we exped the other day. How can this game possibly be dead? How on earth do people possibly judge how alive it is to begin with? It defies the natural laws of the universe, I swear. /unrant

I guess it goes with the current trend over at Allakhazam of people starting a thread about the game dying once every frew hours. :rolleyes2

I'm guessing the game has quite a bit of life really. There are still new players joining and server consolidation doesn't seem like it will be happening any time soon. I think FFXI will last much longer than most expect. The game may not be the most popular MMORPG out there, but I think the life of other successful MMORPGs (UO, EQ) says a lot about how long FFXI will last. When/if private servers become an option, that will just drag the game on into infinitum.

Also, FFXI has the benefit of being a FF game. Many people who play the FF series complained about how FFXI would be a hole in their series, though, if it were on a private server and espcially if that server were free, I think a lot of people miight get into it just to figure out what it was all about.

This is what you do...
You ask someone who has played a couple of final fantasys...
"Hey have you played 12?"
"Sure" they will probably respond.
"Do you like it?"
"Yeah its lots of fun!" (about 90% of people will say if not more)
"You should play 11 then, think of it the same way but your party members are actual other people!"
"(Eyes wide open)"

I dont think this game is dying, my bro is taking a break and as a some of you may know is hogging all the time on the PS2 by playing 12 about 4 hours a day and says he likes it because it plays like 12

Even if it dies, it wont START to die for at least another few years. New people are still joining and long time players are still leveling up lvl 1 jobs.

I'm about 99.95% sure that Siren has over 2,000 users online at anytime. If there were no one on it, they would do some server mitigation and ditch Siren.

So you fail.

I'm on Siren and I never have a problem.

What's your character called Rogue? Maybe we can party some time.
