Is it me or do you hardly ever use Offensive Magic, other than when Im fighting flying enemies, I hardly ever use Offensive magic, I focus on melee attacks against almost everyone. Which is kinda sad, as magic is usually a big part of the Final Fantasy series, and seeing it overlooked in this installment is kind of a disappointment.

every waking second,
I used to have my fran as a spellcaster task specialist where she would be focus on using magic to counter enemy's strengths and using death spell and an asortment of time magic to halt enemy's like new groups from joining the fray while my other characters take out the first ones, or over come there hp with graviga and gravity then I promoted her to combat multiplier in which she now blasts away with blizzaga, darkga, thundaga and oil+fira (fira instead of firga to conserve mp) she is gambited to use these spells at enemy's if they have a elemental weak point if they don't have one she reverts to time magic slow,stop, and disable.
my main character Vaan as I have always saw him to be a sorta mage+fighter class in the FF series so I gave him powerful magic with a sword and shield.

I have Fran set to nuke enemies with their weaknesses. It helps when fighting multiple enemies.

The only person in my Party using offensive magic is Fran(both Black and Arcane)and I always have her spam her magic

If monsters = more than 3.. I consider using magic if they take decent damage from it.... ie.. pulling alot of the snakes in the uplands together and oil+firaga...
I use Bravery, faith, haste and other green magic all the time.. I use slow alot.
As far as blizzaga/firaga/aeroga/darkga/graviga/thundara.... only if multiple enemies... and you get the spells too late to really do much before then.

is Disable considered offensive? I use it when I get a bunch of monsters rushing me.
I don't have much else in the way of elemental magic, so if there's a monster weak to wind, I can't do much about it:|
It's a shame really, because this game makes it a lot easier to use magic, what with VS's regain ur mp!! walkingness.

I use offensive magick all the time.
Same.
I have Fran set for some elemental weakness ones and then I change her gambit for non-elemental magic to fit the situation and my needs. Manually, I use Vaan to cast magic too.

I use offensive magic whenever there are groups of three or more monsters hitting me, and I happen to have their weakness.
Level 35ish now
Vaan: Pladin / Red mage
Basche: Paladin / Red mage
Fran: Support / Combat Mage
I use lots of magic >.>

I didn't really use Offensive magic at all...the same as every other FF game. I did however use magic more overall in this game than any previous FF game.

I use offensive magic on most of the marks, especially those that are flans, and whenever I feel like battling elementals. Unfortuantely, elementals are be out of my league at the moment.

All the time!
Drain was my staple gambit forthe longest time!!

the -aga spells are doing (at least nearly) max damage against enemies with weaknesses- Fran and Penelo being my mages. This is about twice any physical damage I'm doing without berserkers.

When fighting a large group of enemies, I like using their weakness against them to deal massive amounts of damage at one time. It's nice to see multiple enemies drop at one time. Flying enemies get Magick treatment as well.
Green magic, however, is my most used. Haste, Bravery, Faith, and Protect are high on my list of used spells. Bubble and Decoy are my most overused Arcane Magicks.
I focus mostly on melee because I like to have full MP and my characters are generally strong enough to off most mobs without having to resort to magic, but with groups of 3 or more I'll typically throw up some magic. I've been tempted to go with the elemental weakness gambit setup, but I haven't had any problems with the way I handle things yet, so I haven't switched.

well, if you get tired of seeing hacking and slashing: with -aga spells set to gambits, my MP still stays pretty much full. As long as you have all of the MP recovery licenses (inquisitor and such) the MP recovers almost as fast as you can use it.

I use offensive magic. As farplaner said, just gambit the -aga spells and with the MP regen abilities, it's like you're not even using MP.

For some reason I never really liked black magic; I'm more into fighters and white wizards. :)
Some black magic does rock though, especially Ultima in FF6. :thumb:

You can also buy "Turtleneck Choker" at the town square in Bhujerba. It allows you to cast spells using gil instead of MP

I pretty much just hack and slash. =/
Triple-cast Scourge and Scathe did wonders against Chaos. Picture 20000-30000 damage caused per character. Yeah. Offensive magic in boss battles is an absolute must for me now. <3

I usually only set up magic gambits for boss fights, but I usually have a Foe:status=Oil>Firaga gambit on.

You are forced to use it at least a few times it seems... once in particular...
After 30minutes reducing his HP to 20%, then another 3hours getting it from 20% to 7% before I ultimately died waiting for his seemingly auto-Immune Physical to wear off... Zodiark finished me off.
Most bosses seem to use immune physical over the course of the game, so I thought it would fall off Zodiark.... so.. after waiting for 10 consecutive Immune drops followed 0.3 seconds later by Immune back up again... I decided to try nuking, and it is very hard to get even magic in between his immunities.. A dispel to get faith/bravery/Reflect off, and then before flare or holy or anything can get cast, its up again.
Perhaps Zodiark requires Opal rings, Bubble spell vs belt, and lvl 99 to kill.... Did give him a 3hour run though and used all my phoenix downs, all 99 of them, 3 megalixers, and 4 elixers. May level up, may go back with 60/45s party... But definately need to find a way to get by his reflect and immunes, also to stay alive when bravery is on him since theres little time to get it off with dispel. One mean dang fish at least.
So yea, I'll be looking into using offensive magic more often :)

The only magic i use is white magic mainly cure and esuna and the type the other magics dont do enough damage quick enough kinda feels like a waste :cry: . Its too bad they cant make offensive magic more useful or more different.

After I get to area, I access what the main type of weaknesses are. For example, if I see 2 types are weak to wind, 2 types are weak to blizzard. I give my main spellcaster 2 Gambits that say Target: Weak Ice -> Blizzaga, Target: Weak Wind -> Aeroga. And yeah, if you hit 2+ weak targets at the same time, you almost always GAIN mp back instead of losing it, and by lv 50+, -Ga spells will be hitting appropriately weak enemies for 8k+ if you are using Faith and/or Mystic Armor

with the appropriate augment on the license board that is :)
Usually its 3+ for me to gain MP back.. 2 just makes the cost very very low.

Well, take a look at Fran's gambits and see for yourself:
Ally: HP < 50% -> Cura
Foe: Status = Reflect -> Dispel
Foe: Status = Oil -> Firaga
Foe: Fire Weak -> Firaga
Foe: Ice Weak -> Blizzaga
Foe: Thunder Weak -> Thundaga
Foe: Wind Weak -> Aeroga
Foe: Dark Weak -> Darkga
Foe: HP > 10,000 -> Graviga
Foe: Closest -> Bio
Foe: Any -> Attack
Ally: Any -> Shell

most of the "weak" gambits come far too late in the game to be of a significant boon unless you delve deeper into the sidequests. They are quite helpful though, at times.
Seemingly quite a few optional bosses use physical immune quite often... and you are encouraged(and in a few, forced) to use magic.
