Now that :skull::skull::skull::skull:ty 2006 is over we can all look back and decided the inevitable question of...

What do you believe to be the best game released in 2006?

I would say Xenosaga III.

Dreddz

Okami or FFXII.

It's been KHII for me.

Does Final Fantasy V Advance count, if not it's a toss up between Xenosaga III or Tales of the Abyss.

Kingdom Hearts II for me.

Xenosaga III, no Contest.

The conclusion to that game was brilliant. The battle Against Yuriev Dimitri was also great. The truth behind the Testaments and the goals of Cardinal Heinlien, all briliant. There was nothing I disliked about this game.

KH and Xenosaga are in my "to play" pile but aside from those I'd go with XII.

I liked Zelda Twilight Princess a lot but the gamecube controls are so awkward !!!

Kingdom Hearts II or Final Fantasy XII, I can't choose.

In this order:

1) The Legend of Zelda Twlight Princess (Wii)

2) Final Fantasy XII

3) Suikoden V

4) Xenosaga Episode III: Also Sprach Zarathustra

2006 was truly a great year for gaming, mostly in the RPG front, as we were graced with these four amazing games. In addition to Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King released in 2005, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater released in 2004, the last few years have been astounding for videogames.

Vice City Stories. It isn’t the greatest game, but I enjoyed it more than most. Plus, it’s the only game of 2006 that I played, so it’s not like I have a whole lot of options here.

Okami, Xenosaga III and FFXII weren't released here. Infact, Xenosaga III still doesn't have a release date (even though you can pre-order it). If they were released here during last year I probably would have said them (going on my hype for them).

Other than that, perhaps Kingdom Hearts II was the best.

KHII or FFXII, then, maybe Xenosaga 3.

That's actually pretty hard to say. The game I had the most fun with (which was released in 2006) was probably Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin, even if I couldn't beat the Final Boss in Blue Guy mode.

I've spent the most of my time playing PSU. But I think the remake of FFIII is pretty amazing. I'm really not sure. Gears of War was tons of fun when I played it. There are plenty of great games, so I can't honestly pick one.

On a personal level, Xenosaga III was my most loved buy with KHII after that and then FFXII after that. I'd say on a technical and ambition level FFXII was the best, though.

I would say MGS3: Subsistence but I feel this should be about original properties not remakes and special editions.

It's a toss up between Suikoden V and FFXII but I'm going to give it to XII cause it restored some faith in the series for me after the disappointing FFX. I also don't play MMOs so FFXI doesn't really exist to me. Therefore, not counting the rereleases of older FF games, I haven't played a good FF since IX.

FFXII gave me everything I was looking for in the series for awhile. A living breathing world, an open ended and strategy based combat and game system. A completely likable cast, a simple but engaging storyline that isn't boggled down by a sappy love story or pointless plot-twist that only serve to make you believe the game is deeper than it really is.

An honorable mention goes to Xenosaga Episode III. The game itself was beautiful and it really redeemed the series for me. Unfortunately, it's difficult to judge this game alone since it's part of a overall story so I'm sad to say I'm happy Xenosaga is finally over and that it ended on a strong note but I would prefer for it to remain over...

KHII wins my reward for biggest disappointment of 2006. Gameplaywise it's flawless, but I feel they really dropped the ball on the story and characters. Alot of suspense and build-up only to lead to one anti-climatic moment after another. To be honest, it killed my interest in the series and ruined it's one chance to step out of the shadow of Disney and Squenix.

I need to finish Shadow of the Colossus, otherwise I would have mentioned it. I also will be picking up Zelda pretty shortly as well. So I may have to update.

Best game of 2006?

Nintendogs and Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time. I would say Warioware: Touched, but I'm not sure if that was released over in the UK this year. Can't say 12 yet for obvious reasons =P

Nintendogs is addictive. So addictive that as soon as I got this game, I never played anything else until Christmas day (I got this game a few weeks prior). I love making my dogs wear Rainbow Wigs, and playing certain tracks like Colonel Bogey is frickin' hilarious.

MaL: PiT. Wow. I got this on Christmas Day, and I love it. Totally new gameplay system, wasn't expecting it. There are so many different ways to attack and destroy enemies, it never gets dull! I'd say at the most..it has 20+ hrs of gameplay. Not much more. I've just gone past the 20 mark, all my team is at level 21, and I am near enough the end.
Go get this game. It's fun, with lots of interesting puzzles :D

Guitar Hero also kicked arse - it does get harder surprisingly quick =/

Twilight Princess was probably the best out of the few Gamecube titles I got this year (meaning 2006). In fact, I think it was the only Cube title I got. Not the best, but it is challenging.

Disappointments?
Magna Carta. Got this for my 20th birthday..and the gameplay is very lame, VA..erm, debatable. I gave up playing it not long after I started it.

KHII had probably a very poor start out of all the games I played this year. It got progressively better, but right now I am stuck and have other games to be playing.

EDIT: Squall, this is for the best games that were released in 2006 =P

With college and other things I don't have either the money or time to play many games at the moment and most of the ones I've played were from over a year ago!

Anyhoo the two outstanding games for me this year are both Dragon Quest VIII for the sheer retro feel the game had and Shadow of the Colossus for just being simply one of the most beautiful games ever released. I live in Europe so these would count.

I've been really slow on games last year, the only new one I've played was Space Empires V (and only its demo too), and I liked it a lot, but whether I can call it my favourite out of only one is a mystery to me ;)

Dreamfall: The Longest Journey (http://www.dreamfall.com/) wins, hands down. Even with its flawed combat, difficulty and stealth sections. The worst thing about the game is how it ended like an episode of Lost. But the story, music, characters, graphics, settings and music were unlike anything else I've seen before.

It's absolutely overflowing with imagination. Zoë Castillo has more depth to her character than anyone from Final Fantasy. The music was rich, dramatic, and subtle. The story was sheer brilliance.

I've never played anything like Dreamfall before. And I probably never will again. It was a unique and amazing experience.
