....Final Fantasy VII had the cleverest or most enjoyable plot. I don't know but I just really enjoyed watching the cut scenes and the dialogue etc where i find myself skipping most parts of other final fantasys. Maybe it was just becausee it was the first one i played?
Let me know what you think.

VII is far from the greatest. It's villian was decent, but the most overrated villian I have ever seen. It's plot was alright, nothing special though. And aside from Limit Breaks, your characters weren't all that much different with the Materia system. If they did that system differently it would have been much more enjoyable.

i disagree. i think ff7 had one of the best plots going. i don't know about THE best plot tho . . .

come to think of it, i don't think any ff plot is truly pathetic, except maybe x-2. however i think this is made up with the use of the job system. i think that the dressphere system is probably the best battle system going. i also like ff5 for the job system too, tho i prefer x-2 because 5 takes a blow in the graphics department. (and i know they're brilliant for when they were created so don't start arguing! :D)

the best plot? i dunno, always a toss up between 7, 8, and 10.

Are you kidding? They are brilliant!

What FF7 could have done to make the characters more unique could be having more alternative limit breaks. When you think about it, almost every limit break is about dealing damage, except for those of a girl you won't play with for the most of the game (I know there are exceptions, Yuffie, and i think Nanaki, for example, but there still isn't a lot of diversity). With limit breaks that were more unique, and not just DAMAGE DAMAGE DAMAGE, you'd end up with characters that felt as different as those of FF6. It would also open up for more options and strategies, leading to more varied gameplay.

FFVII has a decent plot, mind you, back in 1997 it was amazing. However, there has been many games and Final Fantasies in the past ten years that blow FFVII's convoluted plot out of the water.

In short... Good plot, not the best.

But only if we are talking about just FFVII. Because if we are talking about the entire Compilation, then i belive that VII have the best story/plot.

By saying that FF7 has the most enjoyable and the most cleverly devised plot, you are wrong. Don't get me wrong, I love FF7 but that idea is wrong nonetheless. It is all based on personal opinion, for one. Until everyone can agree that FF7 is the best, without any ands, ifs, or buts, FF7 will never be the best. For then, it is, by universal consent, the best. Then, and only then, will it be the best. But until everyone agrees, it, and thus nothing, is the best.
Second, nothing can ever be perfect. It's a simple fact of life. If you are judging the game on how many things wrong/bad there are in it, then nothing will ever be perfect. Saying that it doesn't have the best story becuase there were some bad things in there is just plain daft. There's good and there's bad. You enjoy something when the good outweighs the bad.

So, in that sense, no, FF7 does not have the best plot. Keep in mind that nothing ever will be the best.

(This is just a request of all those that like FF7, but it is not directed at anyone in particular: In the future, do not go around shouting out "OMG FF7 IS THE BEST!!' as that gains you only the hatred of other gamers who don't hold the same joyous opinion as yours. This will only result in the growth of hatred for those that actually have FF7 as their favorite. We don't need the stigma. So please, refer to such topics neutrally and stated that it is your opinion, and only your opinion. Thank you.)

I have yet to play VII (ain't my fault it is so FREAKIN' EXPENSIVE), but I have read the basic plot dealing with Shinra.

Though I think VI has the best plot from what many have told. Again I didn't play VI (or XI or XI. The rest I have played). IV has a better plot than VII's basic plot. And I have no doubt that VI has the best plot like many have said.
