A friend of mine has recently got me into listening to 3rd Wave Ska (modern) So far I've listened to Howards Alias, The Cat Empire, The Mad Caddies and some Alternate stuff like Sonic Boom Six. I was just wondering if any of you listen to any Ska and can recommend some bands , =D?
Oh and it's nice to have a change from metal don't ya think? :)
What about old ska and two tone. Stuff like madness, the specials etc. Dub can be worth a listen as well. I recently got introduced to King Tubby and Prince Far I.
Yep, Madness and the Specials are both qualitey

I like some of Goldfinger's first album, especially Superman, but I think they went downhill like crazy and turned into another crappy punk band after that.

the aquabats arnt like other ska bands. theyre super heroes and rather goofy but very entertaining. its a much poppier ska but still good. my friends have mixed feelings about them so you can try them but i love them!!!!!

Seriously, Aquabats concert was the best I've ever been to. And believe me, I go to shows a lot. The crowd's attitude, the band, the stage antics, everything was just amazing. In fact I've found that Ska shows usually have the most fun and overall kind crowds where I live.
Two third wave bands that make some real quality stuff are Streetlight Manifesto and The Planet Smashers.
Also, be sure to check The Skatalites for one of the original ska imports straight from Jamaica way back when.
And of course from the period between the two, The Toasters are pure class.
Finally for that foreign flair, Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra (SkaPara for short) make some really wicked stuff. Probably the best hornlines I've heard from the genre.
(btw, The Aquabats latest stuff (i.e. Charge!) isn't ska. The band basically switched genres (but the new stuff is pretty good too). Check out their first two CDs for the most ska goodness)
