View Full Version : Should I pick Flare or Meteor?

These are my current LV8 magics right now:

Life2 / Bahamut / ----

My question is:
should I pick Flare or Meteor for the final slot?
Meteor is obviously the stronger, but isn't it just a weaker version of Bahamut?

I picked Flare the last time, since I wanted a single-hitting spell as well, but what do you think?
Is there something I should know?

i think bahamut is better because i think its roughly just as strong, but it can target all.

but if you know that you are fighting a boss, maybe flare is better. i think it uses less MP.

Flare can be both multiple and single target, has a base strength of 200 and can be reflected. Meteo is always multiple target, has a base strength of 180 and cannot be reflected. Honestly it's preference. Considering you already have Bahamut both Meteo and Flare are somewhat useless since Bahamut is multiple target and does more damage than both of these spells. You might want to go with Wwind to put enemies into Critical Status to allow your melee characters to take them out in one round.

Also all spells at all levels use up one magic point per use of their relevant level.

All LV8 magics share the same MP. ;)

11/11 --- Life2 / Bahamut / ***

See?
All magics will use one MP from the 11/11 stock.
Using Bahamut 11 times will make you unable to use Life2, because you have depleted all MP:s for that level.

Basically, Flare and Meteor use the exactly same amount of MP.

Who is this for? Magus? Onion Knight? Sage? Because personally, I wouldn't use black magic late in the game...

I thought they changed it so that Sages can't use the full effects of the summons. My Sages only use Rend and Aura with Bahamut.

They can't use the full effect of summons, only summoners can.

I assume he is playing the NES version since he refers to Life2 as Life2 and not Full-Life as it has been retranslated in pretty much every Final Fantasy game going.

Bahamut is stronger than Flare and Meteor, so with Bahamut, you won't really need either. There's also a level 8 spell called Holy. I've never tried the spell Wwind, but it could be useful too.

Isn't Wwind the spell that leaves you only with one HP?

ah, but "Assumption is the mother of all f*** ups."

simply put, if it's the original, you'll just use Baham, and if it's the DS version, switch to a summoner if you want to deal the most damage.

Black magic becomes outdated in FFIII. No matter what version you play, by the end the strongest spell is by far Bahamut, and considering it uses the same "MP" you should always use it.

If it's the original version, have both Sages learn Life2 and Bahamut, then I had one with Meteo, and one with Flare, just because. I only used Bahamut though. If it's the DS version, have a summoner that uses Bahamut and a Devout with Holy and Full-Life(Life2).
