:D too bad about the membership. also you will not be able to pig out on carbs top get that insulin high for a while. i hope you maintain it for about 8 weeks because that's how long i recommend staying on a cut before you eat back to maintenance. that way i can see how you responded and whether you'd rather eat normally or just eat more. keto diet just tells me you aren't eating more than about 100 g of carbs. how many meals a day? wondering if you'd be interested in combining keto with intermittent fasting. might be interesting. do watch out as your lifts might take a step back without the glycogen stores giving it energy. I've found that burst strength is hindered by keto. keep us posted!
I wanted to add to this that I had my first real experience with a high intensity workout while on this diet at the gym last night. Now I mentioned in my last post that the best case scenario for the body using blood glucose is to store it as glycogen in the muscles. Since I'm eating extremely low carb, my glycogen levels are pretty much depleted at this point which is very bad for high intensity workouts. Basically it was like hitting a brick wall within a minute or two and still having another 8 to go. The muscles usually process glycogen for energy during these types of workouts so without it, high intensity exercise and endurance exercise don't really work at all. All my strength was their but I had nothing to keep me going. Sadly, I've got to cancel my gym membership for the next month at least so experimenting will be a bit more difficult since I'll be limited to biking and body weight exercises. But I still plan to see if there's any way for me to get around this. I've read that getting a little glucose before and more during and after a workout can help. And since the muscle tissue is primed to utilize glucose more readily during and after a workout I'm not as concerned about insulin spikes then throwing me out of ketosis. I'll try getting some more sugar into me when I work out to see if it makes a difference in my energy level, and I'll continue to monitor my ketone levels. All I had after last nights workout was whole milk and it had no effect on my staying in ketosis despite half of what I drank last night being enough to cut my ketone levels in half last week. Odds are I should be able to handle a decent amount of sugar with no big negative impacts on my diet.
:D your other post is tl;dr (i didn't read it) but it seemed like it was a lead-up to this one. Have you adjusted your diet any differently? Try cutting a little bit of calories or doing enough cardio to match 250-500 Cals per day - it should result in a 1 lbs per week deficit, or at least lower your recovery time to allow you to lift stronger and harder the next time. I'm up to 3.5 plate leg press. My goal for this year is 4 plate leg presses. I should go back to squats too. Get myself up to 275 4x5 instead of 250 lbs.
Is that you peegee? I'm honestly curious since I can't imagine anyone else around here being interested enough in diet to write that post, let alone a brand new member. But I'm also confused since that post was more coherent than I'm used to from peegee.
:D I keep getting summoned. Fine. You started with a rambling about keto diet, which is fine (it was for me), but remember that you cannot safely lose too much mass right away. Oh wait you knew this. My point is that I believe, after going through keto diets, is that it works for two reasons: 1) it's a calorie reduced diet; or it is supposed to be 2) you get enough protein Protein's effect after being burned for maintenance of organs and muscle fiber repair is actually for fuel, as in what we normally expect out of dietary fats and carbohydrates. so eating 'too much' protein is typically okay. Lyle McDonald, as much as I hate his online antics enough to shy from his communities, is right when he says that while it is plausible to have a 500 gram a day diet of protein (and not much else), it is typically functionally impossible. So what I did when i did this high protein diet was drink protein shakes and consume around 200-250 grams of protein. At 150-160 lbs (depending on when I did it), it was plenty. However even at 250 grams of protein that amounts to 1000 Calories iirc. You still need 1000 more Calories typically, or 600 if you followed diesel's guide to cutting from almost 10 years ago and you were on your 8th week of the cut cycle). So what to do with that 1000 Calories? all carbs? that's 250 grams of carbs. All fat? that's...about 111 grams. Usually, it's something in between. Keto diets tend to expect you to eat a lot of fat. However at the end of the day, I don't think the carb/fat ratio matters except due to personal preference / requirement. Maybe you react better to fats (say, omega 3s) than to carbs. Maybe you get too tired eating carbs and have to eat more fat. Maybe fats depress you. It does for me. But that doesn't matter. What matters, ultimately, are two things: - calories consumed - required protein consumed If you get the latter, the former can be tweaked. tl;dr if you aren't getting the results you want, try cutting some of the fat and increasing your protein dosage. I suggest this because I'm assuming that 40g of carbs is your threshold and I wouldn't want to cut any more. You probably wouldn't even be able to anyway.
Google something called BMR. 500 calories less than your BMR a day is all you need to do diet wise to lose weight. I lost 40lbs in just a few months by doing this with couple with 2 gym sessions a week.
Is she dancing because she just slaughtered her own food? Fresh meat and some exercise? Sounds good to me.
I wish you the best of luck in your endeavours and I will grant you the use of this amazing weight loss technique that I have been keeping secret from the government from years:
No worries my friend. I've got some specific ideas in mind where I'd like to start, particularly early on, but since that will literally be an entire post I'm not going to get into it in a comment. The big purpose of this experiment will be to narrow down what works for me. I know some things which have worked for weight loss in the past, but one of my major goals aside from that is to also get the depression under control. I think I've discovered some things in the last year or two which affect my mood greatly. Sort of rough guidelines as far as do's and don'ts, but I really want to get that dialed in so I know what I need to eat, how much of it and all of that jazz. Hopefully I'm not the only one who can take something away from this too though. If my experiment goes the way I expect it will just on the research I've done over the years, I think there may be some people may be surprised. Speaking of though, I need to get to planning right now so I'll be ready for tomorrow.
I am here just to express my support as I am also dieting. I have been since early May. I am around two months into my 30th year of life. At first I was pretty hardcore about dieting by eating lots of veggies and even threw in some intense exercise (for me). I have since scaled back by only doing minor cardio and not going psychotic with the veggies. This is because by ramping up things so quickly, I was going to fail my diet. Despite backing off my healthier ways a bit, I am still losing weight. Anyway, I started at 262lbs. (agian, in early May) and am currently at 240lbs. I can still pull off drinking alcohol and having a good time with little or no weight gain, too! In fact, I have lost 80lbs year ago, and even back then every Friday I had an entire pizza or expensive restaurant cheeseburger! Anyway, I have never been a fan of beer, but I love my hard drinks, mainly vodka. I have been mixing it (with a heavy amount of vodka, mind you) with Pepsi Max. Just using that healthier mixer has helped stave off weight gain tremendously when I choose to act a fool. Now, I don't go doing what I am about to say all the time, but I had the opportunity to drink three days in a row last week. I decided to throw caution into the wind just to see how my weight would react to me slacking off badly for a couple of days. I weighed 239 before those three days. As of today, as stated earlier, I somehow have gained ONE POUND. While drinking and enjoying to occasional "bad" meal is probably causing me to lose weight at a slower rate, I think one of my downfalls of loosing a lot of weight before is that since I did it very fast about 2003/2004, it was so easy to put back on, even though I didn't really consider myself to have gotten FAT, fat again in 2009. Probably in August, I am going to do even more cardio and eat more healthier meals. Wow, I am totally rambling. Anyway, yeah, let's do this. I wish you AWESOME success, man. Keep in mind I didn't share what I said to try to tell you what to do, but to encourage you that even another fat dude with piss poor metabolism has lost around 20 plus lbs while being half strict with himself half the time...while DRINKING BOOZE at least once a week in a heavy manner. Good luck, man!
My favourite part is that the spell checker in Firefox has absolutely no problem with wrongest. I should try to work it into every post now.
Wrongest is the best word. The best.
I need pics, I would think they'd be glorious.
With all of the booze they drank they lit up like Christmas trees.
I was wondering what that smell was, what did you guys do? Burn the dead hookers?
Finally!
I think that may be one of my favourite things about Capcom fighting games. Each new release is like a game to see what word they can cram in the title next.
Just posting to acknowledge that 'Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix' is the most ridiculous name for a game in the galaxy.
Top effort from you and the others. Take a holiday, play some Portal 2, and we'll see you again in a couple weeks for the next round
It's what gives him his strength!
