I like that it's april and your avy is still christmas-ized. Your laziness to everything makes me giggle.

It wouldn't be the same if it was a well oiled machine, now would it? Top effort!

    On it, Cap'n.

That's pretty neat, I'm actually really excited to see how this turns out. I like the idea of your units being a sort of mishmash of different races.

Oh there's plenty of things that went wrong in it. I could probably have come up with examples of other games (some questionable choices in some of the TF2 updates come to mind), but this is one that was both recent, and for a recent game and one of the better examples I've seen lately of a company making a change that hurts some players for no valid reason I can think of.

Does anyone else have some similar examples. All that comes to mind for me right now were the introduction of the item drop system in TF2, and how they initially didn't let you unlock the new weapons via achievements as they had done before. Mind you, the introduction of that system and everything built around it since has been somewhat rocky at times to say the least.

I do like updates overall though when they're used well. Competitive games especially can really benefit from balance changes after release, particularly when players inevitably find the broken/over powered strategies in a game.

I dunno if GT5 is the best example to pick for specific things that went wrong.

Man don't you just hate the kinds of gamers that just don't want people to have fun?

Agreed on AI. I've had to restart races because they've driven me straight off the road. Granted I do the exact same thing sometimes, but I expect a little better from the AI, especially since it seems they just don't know to try and avoid hitting you. If we see a GT6 this console generation then I really hope they improve the AI over almost anything else. I'd like a bit more challenge and realism in that area, especially since it's seen little to no improvement since I started playing with GT3.

Idk but they do make for good leveling. Also what pisses me off the most about this game is the smurftarded AI. Those assholes will just slam into you whenever they feel like it. Imagine if people did that in real races.

To be honest, I think half of the problem with the leveling system is that it wasn't balanced well. Like I said, I was blowing past levels in no time during the early game, but now the exponentially increasing experience requirements are killing me. They really needed to spend more time testing and balancing that particular feature if they were going to include it at all.

Another option that may have worked as well would have been just letting someone move on to the next set of races once a certain percentage of races before it were completed. All the benefit of keeping the leveling system for those who like it while letting those who don't bypass it entirely. Though I loathe the idea of adding another layer of complication to something that shouldn't have become complicated to begin with. Maybe a better idea would have been letting players unlock races through the tried and true license tests. You get the grinding for those who aren't that good at the game but still want to advance, and license tests for those who can blow through them all in a day.

Come to think of it, do the license tests even do anything aside from train you in this game? I don't think a single race required I beat a license to compete in it.

yeah the leveling system does suck. On a whole I was disappointed with GT5 because it was an incomplete game from the start (though they're fixing that with the patches, it's just too late) and it has just too many flaws despite all the time they spent on developing it. The leveling system is super annoying. Forza 2 had the same system but it never really felt as limiting as it does in GT5.

As much as I love Monopoly, it does have quite possibly one of the worst end games I've seen. Bad enough that it's all about luck in the end, but it really does just drag on and on, especially when it becomes about nothing but rolling and passing around cash.

I play Monopoly for about an hour before I decide to completely ruin the game by auctioning off the majority of properties that I attained throughout play for very low prices (5$ for Park Place, anybody?). This is one of the reasons nobody likes to play Monopoly with me, even though they laugh at how fun it is.

I didn't read this blog cause it was a lot of text.

Hover over the title, and the little "edit" pencil should appear.

Hmm, is it just me or can I not find an edit button. Anyway, where I said "attacking was handled by each player rolling two d6 with the high roll going to the attacker, for each attack the unit could make that turn," it should actually read more along the lines of each player rolling two dice with the high roll winning and ties going to the attacker.

I guess that's what happens when I make a post late at night while also very angry at my wife and trying to suck down a late night plate of spaghetti. Makes it a little hard to concentrate on what I'm doing.

designing a fully functional game part time will be difficult! My brother works at ... my brother owns his own game studio (long story) and so I have an idea of how incredibly time consuming it is.

Definitely post details! Nothing that we can't steal D: ^_^
