I don't think so, Steve. It might be in some states but I can't imagine anyone actually enforcing such a strange sounding law.

No, bebe critics tell you everything that was good and bad. I've given you my input already and yeah it was similar to Dak's. It wasn't as smooth as I think it could have been, and that threw my little ADD brain into hard times.

But I can tell you that I know that I am not a good critic. I can only tell you how I feel, and I know there would be someone out there who would be much better at that. But ya, like Dak I want you to keep writing. If you don't want a head pat maybe a tug job will suffice?

The "head-patters" are family and (other) friends who read my stuff and who don't seem to know what constructive criticism is.

You still have some redundancies. People usually conspire with other people, so "together" is a redundant word. I can go through and pick out a handful of minor faults, but I'm not good enough to critic anything bigger. The flow of the story wasn't smooth imo but I don't know why this is, perhaps I read at a varying rate

If I pat your head it's only because I want you to keep writing. I'd get bored with nothing to read

@sharky - I get what you mean about the already being awake bit. It's very difficult to describe how I can have a nightmare while "awake".

@foa - I thought about doing a sleep study when I was younger but since I don't have them that often as an adult I just kind of forget about it until it happens. I should probably look into it.

I've never had night terrors but I do have really vivid dreams, which means I have really vivid nightmares. I've woken up from them crying, screaming or ready to fight someone. Not nearly as severe as night terrors, though.

My little cousins, as I call them, both suffered (?) from rhythmic movement disorder when they were small children, though. That was a pain in the ass if you had to sleep with them.

Have you ever seen a sleep specialist? You should see if you can see one for free if you offer to let yourself be studied.

My ex-wife had one night terror episode during our marriage. I think she had more when she was younger. She didn't walk though. I woke up because I just felt something was "wrong". She had apparently been stuck awake, but unable to move for a while (half hour, maybe) because her pillow was wet from tears.

She also suffered from frequent panic attacks so my first instinct was to hold her and comfort her, but apparently that was NOT the correct thing to try. I guess because she was in a dream state or something that made things worse. I learned later that me holding her made it much scarier and did nothing to help her "wake up." She was already pretty much awake, so I don't know a better way to phrase it.

So perhaps giving future girl friends a heads up about what's going on and how to handle it would be best. I know it's personal, but if they're sleeping over hopefully they're someone you trust.

I have about one or two a year. My last one was in December. I kinda beat up the person next to me and then woke everyone else up screaming.

Scary...I had one too, but all i did was scream my brains out and woke my parents up. I couldn't move though. Luckily i suffer from sleep paralysis

Hmm... I do think I've got something good here but it very well may be in the eyes of others. I can write up a synopsis of the story and show it to any of you, to get an idea of what the story is like, if anyone is interested. I'm very eager to hear what others think of it and I trust all of you well enough that you won't blab it out to anyone who will listen. This holds true for almost anything regarding literature. If it sucks, you can't do it. If it is really good, you can pretty much do whatever the hell you want.

It depends on how engaging the first book was. Sometimes, sure, I love a character so much that I want to know about their past. It's rare though.
