I feel like the year 2001 was an odd year in gaming. One of the first time where you really felt like the end of an era and the beginning of a new one was coming. Sony was gearing up to release the successor to the smash hit PlayStation and if you looked around the gaming scene, it seemed like every company was jumping ship to get on board what the PS2 could do. Square had released their PS1 swan song FFIX even though they would still support the PS1 with ...
Blah blah blah Top 100 blah blah blah too many good games to list. Blah blah blah, games that weren't good enough for my list but still excellent nonetheless. ******************************************************************************* Of the Classic series within Final Fantasy, FFIII was the last one for me to play, partly cause I didn't emulate very often and partly because I had hoped SE would come to their senses and re-release this title. ...
So I did my Top 100 last year, and this year, I'm focusing on a few entries that didn't make the cut for one reason or another. I'll start off by saying that most of the games mentioned in this blog series are all worth playing, they simply just haven't enraptured me enough to place them on my List. I started with Demon's Souls, and i have about 24 more entries to go. I know I said it would be like four or five, but giving myself some time to think about it made me realize how many great games I ...
This was going to have a subtitle, but they all sounded like pretentious academic papers and that kind of goes against the point of all of this. So recently I began reading a very in-depth article series about two series worked on by one of the more influential game designers/writers in my life, Tetsuya Takahashi. I'll leave it up to Google for you to figure out why. Anyway, it was mostly a really well written and interesting analysis of the works and I actually learn a few things ...
Haven't done a blog in ages and I wanted to talk about this without starting a thread. So I picked up the That Game Company Collection set a while back and finally last December I played through it. I'm not going to bother discussing the cell phones style games cause... yeah... I'll simply focus on the Big 3 that everyone bought the set for. flOw - Is and interesting game with some cool dynamics to it. It's pretty short but I'm a busy person and so this is actually a ...
Okay, so as many of you know, I picked up Mass Effect Trilogy not too long ago with a few other games and the prospect of playing an honest to god 100% Sci-Fi RPG was too much to resist so I plunged head first into the trilogy pack and have completed the first game. I'm roughly 10 hours into Mass Effect 2 at this point but I'm basically just going to lay out my thoughts on the first game. **************************************************** WARNING!!! THERE BE MASS(IVE) ...
Final Fantasy has always been one of the best series, but some would argue its entered its Dork Age, and that it has really lost its self. The other issue is that some games do things really well compared to FF and you have to wonder why Squenix doesn't give some of this love to the main series. This is not to say that these games are better than FF, rather they have some particular elements that make them stand out among their peers, and I often wonder why the rest of the genre hasn't jumped on ...
So I finally got off my ass and played through Assassin's Creed 1. Yeah, I know I'm half a decade behind the rest but I've been busy. I was thinking of making a thread but figured a blog review or final thoughts would work better since it is such an old game. Anyway... my thoughts: Story and Characters: The plot of the game is intriguing, a little weird but once you quickly accept the Animus, everything else doesn't feel out of place. The game has a pretty good cast of characters who ...
