Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels

I blog about visual novels as I read them.

  1. Various Announcements and Releases

by , 09-20-2015 at 12:15 PM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)
So I was gone for two weeks, off in Italy working on stone walls. Twas pretty fun, but there was no (consistently usable) internet to speak of so now I have to catch up on what happened these two weeks. And there certainly are things to share.

fault milestone two side:above has been released
You can find it on Steam for I think 15 bucks. It seems milestone two was split into two halves, and although the creators said they worked with that in mind I've already seen complaints about ...

  2. Maji de Watashi ni Koi Shinasai! Review

by , 09-06-2015 at 12:34 AM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)
Maji de Watashi ni Koi Shinasai! (lit. Do Love Me Seriously!), or just Majikoi for short, is a visual novel developed by Minato Soft. It's very long and expansive yet consists almost entirely of lighthearted slice of life.

    Overview

The initial setup of Majikoi is surprisingly reminiscent of Little Busters!. The main cast of characters is a group of friends that has been together for a long time, and the ...
  3. Symphonic Rain First Impressions

by , 09-02-2015 at 04:49 PM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)
So after a bit of a hiatus to catch up on some other things, I felt like jumping straight back into what I hope to be a beautiful storyline. Symphonic Rain, a story set in a small town where the rain falls perpetually. Supposedly the plot is very much focused on music.

OH MY GOD IT'S SO CUTE. This is Phorni, a fairy-like being called a 'sprite of music' who lives in one of the rooms at the protagonist's home. He is presumably ...
  4. Grisaia no Kajitsu Review

by , 08-05-2015 at 02:12 AM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)
Grisaia no Kajitsu, or The Fruit of Grisaia, is a visual novel developed by Frontwing. It's one of the longest visual novels currently on Steam, and the first of three parts in the Grisaia series.

    Overview

The plot of Grisaia no Kajitsu opens with our protagonist Yuuji Kazami transferring into Mihama Academy, a school with a total head count, him included, of only a principal and six students, the five ...
  5. Phoenix Wright Trilogy Retrospective

by , 07-30-2015 at 11:43 PM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)
Recently a couple of members have shared their opinions on this series, some positive some negative, so I got the urge to think back and reevaulate the original trilogy as a whole.

I ranked Ace Attorney as my #10 favorite Visual Novel back when I did my Top 10 and so far this rating still stands; neither Zero Escape nor Cross†Channel were able to get in front of it and push it off the list. And it doesn't look like Grisaia no Kajitsu is up to the task either.

    I'll be going ...
  6. Grisaia no Kajitsu Common Route Impressions

by , 07-24-2015 at 10:59 PM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)
Been a while since I was this captured by a visual novel's sense of humor. Even though the common route did in fact take a good 12 hours to read through, and it was basically all fun and lighthearted comedy, it never became a drag for me. I was just really enjoying myself.

Just quickly mentioning this, the common route is almost completely linear. There are only three choices until you get to the more important choices ...
  7. Grisaia no Kajitsu First Impressions

by , 07-22-2015 at 11:46 PM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)
So I've started reading the allegedly "best visual novel currently available on Steam", Grisaia no Kajitsu, also known as The Fruit of Grisaia or Le Fruit de la Grisaia.

Well it's a galge set in a highschool setting, but even just an hour in it has already managed to set itself apart. Starting with the protagonist, Yuuji Kazami. The guy's a total badass. Unlike ...
  8. eden* Review

by , 07-21-2015 at 11:53 PM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)
eden* They were only two, on the planet is a short visual novel by minori. It calls itself "the last love story on Earth".

    Overview

The plot of eden* follows a military officer by the name of Ryou Haruna who has just been assigned to guard the research facility and residence of Sion, a genetically modified superhuman called a "Felix". Sion uses her abnormal intelligence to develop the ...
  9. Cross†Channel Review

by , 07-16-2015 at 10:34 PM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)
Cross†Channel is a visual novel written by Romeo Tanaka. It is often considered one of the most beautifully written visual novels out there.

This review will reveal the initial setting and structure of this visual novel, both of which could be considered spoilers. If you wish to be completely unspoiled regarding these points, skip this review.

    Overview

Cross†Channel is set in a place called ...
