There is a protestor image that says 'if everybody owes everybody where did the debt come from?' or something to that effect.

The actual truth is that a percentage of debt is owed to itself. As I indicated above, what the Federal Government is doing is buying its own treasuries with treasuries. It's all a complicated way of saying the government prints money through the federal reserve.

I never understood why we didn't square some of the debts. If I owe you $20 and you owe me $15 then let's call it I owe you $5

If I give away all my money then I will be the bum. Will someone then give me all their money? How will that stop the cycle?

Good point dak. You have more money than the bum. Give him your money. Or a woman who isn't that grossed out should have sex with a desperate bum. Utilitarianism based on relative "good" is faulty.

So democracy is inherently flawed, then? What then, if you were to vote for the already incumbent government? You're not voting for change and their actions are already pre-established norms.

You mention the "poor fool" but what if he wasn't poor? If he was a rich fool, is there something more abstract saying that's okay? I mean he has enough money. Surely we should all be given a level playing field?

Bequeathing the ability to assault someone is the best idea ever.

i still like my definition 'great firewall of china' better.

some people say 'huk credit ratings don't mean anything to a country' - but basically the federal reserve is promising to continuously (as in with no end) buy up distressed properties until the economic recovery ends. They are propping up stock market prices by devaluing your currency - basically a subsidy to stock market traders. The 'unseen' consequences is pretty obvious - the price of gas is going up and eventually we might see commodity prices go up.

    oh wait...sec

the cost of things IS going up.

No the credit rating thing. I briefly saw some news, mostly saying that something did something and the stock market went up but it sounded like the trout that put us in the Global Financial Crisis.
