  1. Pop quiz

Your car bursts into flames in the middle of the street about 100 feet from your house. What do you do?

If your answer is "run inside, grab some Kool-Aid, and then throw the Kool-Aid on the flames," you think very similarly to alleged gang hitmen in my area.

  2. I may end up killing myself within the next two months

There is a widely-believed caricature of the law and lawyers, at least in the US. It is that the law mandates the use of legalese in order to make sure no one but lawyers has any smurfing clue what we’re talking about, and thus creating business for lawyers. That the law relies on archaic rules and procedures that make no sense in any modern setting to anyone outside the club. That the law is all form and little substance, and that lawyers promote this insanity in order to enjoy their monopoly on ...

  3. Hilarious opinions and judicial antics

Recently I've been keeping up with Lowering the Bar, a legal humor site. Just recently I noticed its Case Law Hall of Fame, and boy there are some nuggets in there. Even lay people can appreciate some of the biting humor here, so I figured I'd share some of the best quotes. Admittedly I was way too amused by some of these.

  4. The cause of The Gay

So I'm stuck at the law school for another 90 minutes until my next class and I'm procrastinating finishing my reading for it. So here's a little rant I promised in my last entry about the "choice vs. genetics" dichotomy as to what causes people to be gay.

The religious nutjobs say it is entirely a choice. But not only is this entirely baseless (well, based on the mindless bigotry that being gay is "ew"), but what the smurf does that even matter? Even IF being ...
  5. Skepticism

Yes, I know I posted this xkcd comic on Facebook, but it deserves to be spread around.

This reminds me of the old truth: What do you call alternative medicine that works? "Medicine." Tim Minchin has also addressed this issue quite humorously in "Storm" and "If you open your mind too much, your brain will fall out."

Skepticism, which is basically a critical ...
  6. It all makes sense now

A while ago, the Insane Clown Posse released a song called "Miracles," which, as far as anyone could tell, was a tribute to being a complete smurfing retard. But now ICP is explaining the song, and also their views of religion and science. No surprise that they are staunch god-believers.

When asked whether they anticipated the negative reaction to "Miracles":

"No," sighs Violent J. "I figured most people would say, 'Wow, I didn't know
