Growing up, especially during my teenage years, I considered myself a "gamer" even without access to the internet, PC or rare "cult classic" games, or the underlying geek culture that I later identified with. As a young adult, even though my experiences were limited compared to many, I invested myself in what it was to be a gamer, I learned about the trends and I developed my own tastes.
Sometime around the time of the first DS, I realized that technology was changing quicker than I could fiscally afford to follow. It also became more and more of an investment of time that I found I had less and less.
So I find myself now, hanging on to the outside of this culture, and I want to belong to it. I'm still a huge fan of this kind of entertainment but I find myself less and less able to engage other people in conversations about this hobby, let alone engage myself in its practice.
For the adult gamers out there who are also successful, wage earning, actual grown-ups how do you find a balance between this time and money-consuming hobby and the responsibilities of being an adult.
Also, wtf should I be playing right now?
