  1. Branching Out

I have some good news, and bad news, so I'll start off by getting the bad news out of the way.

The bad news is that after much thought I'm not doing those other articles even as a weekly thing. I don't have the drive to do them anymore. They were fun for a while as an experiment, but I ran out of ideas pretty quickly. However, I'll still be branching out to new fields.

This brings me to the good news. There have been something I wanted to do for a while now, but it ...
  2. Title Screen Themes in VNs

by , 06-18-2015 at 12:46 AM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)
I feel like doing a few writeups of particular aspects of visual novels, and how and where they were done well or not-so-well. There's a lot of subtle things that go into a visual novel experience, and I appreciate the attention to detail on some accounts. This is one of those little things that can truly make a big difference.

In many ways a good title screen theme is important. It's the single theme you keep coming back to - the one you hear every time you open up the game - and ...

  3. Best of luck to Square Enix

So much irony in me saying these words.

My thoughts are with the Square Enix team working on the Final Fantasy VII Remake and I wish them all the best. The amount of pressure they're going to get working on something that is considered the best RPG of all time by millions could kill a person. No matter what they do, people are going to bitch when the game doesn't live up to their expectations.

They could keep EVERYTHING from the original game in it and I still predict ...
  4. VNs in the Steam Summer Sale!

by , 06-14-2015 at 11:24 AM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)
Figured I might as well make this little list for anyone interested in taking advantage of the current Summer Sale to grab a couple of games.

planetarian ~the reverie of a little planet~ is 50% off, putting it at 4,99. Being made by the same company who also made CLANNAD and Little Busters!, naturally, I can only recommend it. It's only three hours long and thus definitely one of the best 'short' (<5h) visual novels I've ever read. Especially if you like Key, or you're interested ...
  5. Religion

I'm not a religious man, but I've recently discovered that my cat is a Protestant.

I found a dead cardinal on my doorstep.

  7. One last rant about a certain Final Fantasy

Final Fantasy XIII is a game I haven't talked a lot about on my blog or social media, so allow me to start this rant off with my thoughts on the game.

    I didn't like it.

Now, ever since I made my feelings of this game known, I have had several people from the FFXIII fan community (apparently this exists) that has come out of the woodwork to explain to me why I'm wrong and should give the game a second chance to the point of excessive nagging. So, allow me to address each ...
  8. AIR: Why the Key community is amaaaazing

Even if you haven't read AIR, this is just wonderful.

  9. Days of PokePast - The Wonderful Art of Pokemon Generation 1

The Wonderful Art of Pokemon Generation 1

I love Pokemon Gen 1. I loved it when it came stateside in '98, and I love it still now, nearly two decades later. It is a strange, almost experimental feeling set of titles, defined by many odd quirks, bugs, and choices the developers ironed out in subsequent generations, and because of this, it, more so than any other generation in the series, has a distinct ...
  10. Hit Reset

So I took some time off of my exercise program because I was dreading it, I had a hurt knee, and I broke down crying. So I focused on weights and jogging for a little bit. Going to start the program back up again tonight and hopefully it will be more successful.

Also going to start volunteering at the sexual abuse trauma center again as an on call person. My car is broken so I can't intern there now, but sharky is home in the evenings for crisis calls.

    I'm not feeling too ...
