  1. Sharin no Kuni, Himawari no Shoujo: First Impressions

by , 01-13-2015 at 05:58 PM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)
So I've started reading this visual novel. Sharin no Kuni, Himawari no Shoujo - one of the more popular visual novels made by the same company that made G-senjou no Maou.

I already regret starting it now when I have tons of exams and deadlines coming up because this visual novel is hard to put down. I like it a lot so far. The writing is glorious and some of the characters are just really lovable.

    The story starts ...
  2. Narcissu Review

by , 01-12-2015 at 10:04 PM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)
Narcissu is a visual novel developed by stage-nana, published in English by insani and Sekai Project.
It's a visual novel that I bring up for four main reasons.
    • It's on Steam
    • It's free
    • It's very short
    • It's very good

    Overview

Narcissu is a story about two terminally ill young adults living in a hospice. One being a twenty-year-old man who only just got admitted, and the other being a slightly ...
  3. Katawa Shoujo Review

by , 01-12-2015 at 04:12 PM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)
Katawa Shoujo (lit. "Disability Girl") is a visual novel developed by Four Leaf Studios. The novel gathered a bit of attention as its developer team consists of volunteers from the 4chan community which formed Four Leaf Studios with the sole purpose of creating and freely distributing this visual novel.

Katawa Shoujo is one of a vast minority of visual novels that was not made in Japan.

  4. Katawa Shoujo: Lilly Satou's Route Thoughts

by , 01-10-2015 at 07:55 PM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)

And thus ends the last route. Was it a good note to end the visual novel on? Hell yes.

Lilly Satou is a half-Scottish half-Japanese student who is enrolled at Yamaku high school because she is blind. She is good friends with Hanako and on not-so-good terms with Shizune, who is also her cousin. She has an older sister called Akira who works as a lawyer and occasionally visits Lilly and Hanako.

    Lilly's route is ...
  5. Katawa Shoujo: Hanako Ikezawa's Route Thoughts

by , 01-07-2015 at 11:46 PM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)

I did have somewhat high expectations for Hanako's route and it was nice to not see them betrayed. It even caught me off guard a few times and the ending was pretty good.

First about Hanako herself. She is the shyest of the heroines and has great difficulties interacting with people. She has rather obvious scars over the entire right half of her body, but it's something she apparently prefers not to talk about. She is good friends ...

  6. Katawa Shoujo: Shizune Hakamichi's Route Thoughts

by , 01-07-2015 at 01:08 AM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)

From left to right: Misha, Shizune, Hisao

Shizune is a character I wouldn't have thought I'd appreciate much. She is a deaf girl who is also student council president. In the early parts of the story, Misha - who acts as the interpreter for her - and Shizune are on your case all the freaking time and it can be quite annoying. That is unless you go for Shizune's route in which case Hisao actually ends up appeciating their attention as it ...

  8. Katawa Shoujo: Rin Tezuka's Route Thoughts

by , 01-03-2015 at 10:39 PM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)

Going through the visual novel once more from the very beginning, I ended up simply picking the exact opposite choices I picked the first time, and I ended up on Rin's route. Which was perfectly fine with me because it was a route I was interested in seeing how it would play out.

Rin is difficult to describe. The prime adjective that comes to mind is "different". She reacts to situations differently than one would ...
  9. Katawa Shoujo: Emi Ibarazaki's Route Thoughts

by , 01-03-2015 at 04:34 AM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)

So I just got done reading Emi's route. As it turns out I was already locked dead into her route by the time I made that previous post.

No more than a few lines after where I stopped did Hisao realize his feelings for Emi, and soon enough it turned out those feelings were mutual. And they lived happily ever after.

...yeah right. This wouldn't be much of a romance visual novel if the story ended right there. Now naturally ...
  10. Katawa Shoujo: First Impressions

by , 01-03-2015 at 12:30 AM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)
So I've been reading Katawa Shoujo for about two and a half hours now and I think I can give a few first impressions. Let me give a quick rundown of the main plot and heroines.

The beginning was very reminiscent of Narcissu. The protagonist Hisao suffers from arrhythmia, a heart disease, a fact which is discovered when he has a sudden heart attack while his crush is confessing to him. Terrible timing, huh. The next four months he spends in the hospital, slowly coming to terms with ...
