  1. OOC Monologue

by , 01-05-2016 at 06:13 PM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)
Something sweet and motivating to start off the new year with.

(I think I've obscured it enough so as to not spoil where it's from, but if you recognize the style early on and you haven't completed this VN yet, proceed with caution.)

  2. Looking back on 2015

by , 01-02-2016 at 02:56 AM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)
Wow, hard to believe it's already been a year. Across the entirety of 2015 I've made 90 whole blog posts. That's a post every four days! Let me take a look at how far I've come since starting this thing...

I've read 23 new visual novels, 18 of which I've reviewed.

Adding up all the approximate lengths I'm left presuming I spent about 650 hours on it. Not counting rereads of visual novels I had already read prior to this year.

By far my most active reading ...
  3. Censoring and Visual Novels

by , 12-18-2015 at 02:51 AM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)
Seems like censoring in games has become quite a controversial issue recently. I mostly see people vehemently claiming that censoring is bad practice and should not be a thing. And I gotta be honest, I feel it's not quite that simple.

This article is a bit old, being from mid-2013, but this has been an issue in the visual novel localizing scene for years now and it STILL ...

  5. CLANNAD First Re-Impressions

by , 11-28-2015 at 08:39 PM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)
You know I was somewhat anxious going into CLANNAD. Not too long ago I crowned it my #3 favorite visual novel, but really, it's been two years since I read it by now. It was the first visual novel I had ever read that I truly identified as a member of its medium. So I was slightly afraid that it turns out my perception of CLANNAD was just heavily colored, that since I had no standards regarding visual novels back then, it might fail to hold up now, not actually being as good as I remember.

  6. Rose Guns Days Review

by , 11-27-2015 at 04:17 PM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)
Rose Guns Days is a visual novel developed by 07th Expansion, written by Ryukishi07.

    Overview

Rose Guns Days takes place in post-WWII Japan where, in an alternate history, Japan's culture is slowly being eradicated by the overwhelming influx of American and Chinese residents and poor treatment and ensuing poverty the native Japanese have to endure. Solidarity among fellow Japanese countrymen is at an all-time ...
  7. CLANNAD Steam Release on November 23rd

by , 11-13-2015 at 11:57 PM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)
The CLANNAD Steam page has gone online and the release date has been revealed to be November 23rd!

This also means that the Kazamatsuri Bookclub will be starting on that very day. If you're interested in participating - which I wholeheartedly recommend doing - mark your calendars. The bookclub does encourage reading at your own pace, but it'd be nice if you could at least find the few hours a week to read the route we're currently focusing on.

    It'd ...

What the hell are you still reading this for!? Go buy it already!

Still unconvinced? It's a visual novel of moderate length with a thrilling story, a colorful cast and an absolutely incredible ending. It's the perfect starter VN, and still ranks as one of the overall best! And it's 30% off right now for launch week! What more do you need?

Just get it. It's good. It's in my absolute favorites, ...

  10. An Interview with Koki Yoshimune on his writing

by , 10-31-2015 at 03:32 PM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)

This got posted on the Muv-Luv Kickstarter a little while ago, and I found it pretty interesting. I especially wasn't aware of the whole 'War Guilt' thing and why writers turn to mecha to depict war situations instead.
