  1. Ever17 just got really creepy... and intriguing

by , 01-25-2015 at 08:35 PM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)
Okay, so, uh, Ever17. I finished the first character route and on replay I decided to answer some of the very first choices differently.

    Starting with this one:

First playthrough I picked "Who am I", so this time I picked "I've got to find my friends". Turns out... simply picking this choice changes your POV character. I really have no idea what's going on but it feels as if two characters have "blended ...
  2. Ever17 -the out of infinity- First Impressions

by , 01-20-2015 at 11:44 PM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)
Now there's a visual novel that gets endless praise for its great story. And for now I can at least say the setting is very intruiging.

Ever17 is set in the subaquatic amusement park "LeMU". In the beginning the perspective switches between two male characters as they simply wander around the park. Not long thereafter an accident occurs, flooding the topmost floor of the park and trapping six people in the floors ...
  3. Sharin no Kuni, Himawari no Shoujo Review

by , 01-19-2015 at 12:06 AM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)
Sharin no Kuni, Himawari no Shoujo (lit. Wheel Country, Sunflower Girl) is a visual novel developed by AKABEi SOFT2, the same company that would go on to make G-senjou no Maou later on. It is a novel often praised for its good writing and character development; and on that I'm inclined to agree.

    Overview

In the world of Sharin no Kuni, criminals are not locked up in prisons or executed. Instead, they are ...
  4. Sharin no Kuni Chapter 5 ("Sharin no Kuni" Arc) Impressions

by , 01-17-2015 at 10:19 PM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)

So it's already here, the plot's climax. And with it comes the obligatory plot twist that makes you feel so damn stupid for not realizing it before. G-senjou had it, Umineko had many of them, and now Sharin no Kuni has one too.

Really, Sharin no Kuni's Chapter 5 is similar to G-senjou no Maou's in so many ways. You can really see how they took what worked great in Sharin no Kuni and worked it into G-senjou.

  5. Sharin No Kuni Chapter 4 (Natsumi's Arc) Impressions

by , 01-17-2015 at 12:44 AM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)

Okay smurf you game and your smurfing cliffhangers. It's one in the morning and I can already say that I won't be getting any sleep tonight because I so badly want to know what happens next. First, a quick impressions intermission.

Natsumi is a very socially inactive girl with the worst obligation of all; Prohibition of Falling in Love, which disallows her contact with the opposite sex; no physical contact is allowed, no eye contact ...
  6. Sharin No Kuni Chapter 3 (Touka's Arc) Impressions

by , 01-15-2015 at 12:44 PM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)

I still have no clue what that sentence is supposed to mean.

So, Touka's arc. For the most part it had a similar feel as Sachi's arc, although I think it was somewhat longer.

Oone Touka is the daughter of Oone Kyouko and has been imposed with the obligation of fulfilling all of her parent's orders. For the most part this is stuff like "do one hour of exercise in the morning" or "study for three hours". ...
  7. Sharin no Kuni Chapter 2 (Sachi's Arc) Impressions

by , 01-14-2015 at 06:27 PM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)

Having just gotten done reading Chapter 2 of Sharin no Kuni, Himawari no Shoujo, I'll give my thoughts on it. It focuses on Sachi, the "energetic type" as Kenichi likes to put it, and it seems the next chapters will subsequently feature the other girls as written above.

Sorry I barely have any screenshots for this chapter.

Now Sharin no Kuni is one long plot instead of a branching story so there will ...
  8. Sharin no Kuni, Himawari no Shoujo: First Impressions

by , 01-13-2015 at 05:58 PM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)
So I've started reading this visual novel. Sharin no Kuni, Himawari no Shoujo - one of the more popular visual novels made by the same company that made G-senjou no Maou.

I already regret starting it now when I have tons of exams and deadlines coming up because this visual novel is hard to put down. I like it a lot so far. The writing is glorious and some of the characters are just really lovable.

    The story starts ...
  9. Narcissu Review

by , 01-12-2015 at 10:04 PM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)
Narcissu is a visual novel developed by stage-nana, published in English by insani and Sekai Project.
It's a visual novel that I bring up for four main reasons.
    • It's on Steam
    • It's free
    • It's very short
    • It's very good

    Overview

Narcissu is a story about two terminally ill young adults living in a hospice. One being a twenty-year-old man who only just got admitted, and the other being a slightly ...
  10. Katawa Shoujo Review

by , 01-12-2015 at 04:12 PM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)
Katawa Shoujo (lit. "Disability Girl") is a visual novel developed by Four Leaf Studios. The novel gathered a bit of attention as its developer team consists of volunteers from the 4chan community which formed Four Leaf Studios with the sole purpose of creating and freely distributing this visual novel.

Katawa Shoujo is one of a vast minority of visual novels that was not made in Japan.
