Okay, last week a local grocery chain made some minor local news about a store in a remote part of the state putting a "Family shield" in front of magazines that featured Elton John, his partner, and their son.

Some gay allies called the headquarters, complaining about this censorship of homosexual partnerships, so the manager at the store was made to take off the shield.

This, along with a press release explaining the family shield policy, which seems to bespeak a fairly clean cut "a couple of people complained, so we did this, but that made more unhappy, so we reversed it", but because they are taking a fairly neutral stance (remember, this is Arkansas) and not a more proactive one in favor of gay rights, there continues to be a call to boycott all their stores.

Meanwhile, my bigoted cousin (who is a pretty good weathercock of the Tea Party mentality) is posting to his facebook how we should be heaping praise on Chick-Fil-A for openly supporting anti-gay causes, and chiding this grocery store for pandering to a "vocal minority."


I mean, it would be great if they had been more supportive in that press release, but goddamn, why turn away even half-hearted support?
