I knew when I decided to go back to school that these would ostensibly the last days where I could live 'freely'. That is, before I get tied down to a permanent job or a permanent Significant Other. I also knew that I wouldn't have a lot of break time, due to the schedule the school set up (i.e. my Summer break ended in July, been in school from then until now).

That term ended last week, and I was looking forward to the break until my cousin told me she'd be getting married in Canada. So, I took a trip. Apart from the wedding and one other event, the trip was rather peaceful. I was staying in some old relative's house so I was mostly offline while I was there, but it was in a nice, quiet neighbourhood where I could mentally recover. Plus it was good to eat something other than pizza and ramen for a while.

The other thing I wanted to do since I was in the area is to meet an online friend of mine that I've known for at least 5 years. Before I joined this site, though he was a rather prominent part of this site. So I took the 'Rocket' to a particular stop in Toronto, and spent a few hours with Roto13.

I had another engagement with family later that day so we kind of condensed things a lot. He thoroughly trounced me in Smash Brothers Brawl, and I brought a few games with me for him to try which in hindsight are pretty bad in a 'demo' situation. After making him walk through the rain to go to a game store where I didn't buy anything, we shook hands and parted with "See you on the Internet."

Roto is the one I've talked with the most from this site, but I've actually met a few people from here already. At a Meetup two years ago I met with Peegee, Denmark, Ko Ko and Faris. Rye and I were actually within like 30 miles of each other for a time, but we never linked up.

I'd actually go for another New York meetup before I leave the US next year.
